I was told from what I consider a very reliable source that the new 300XS is based on not the 3.0L but a 3.3L motor....and....along with the new design additional weight. If that is the case my repowering to the new 300XS might not be the option I was originally considing due to the increased weight.

300XS 3.0L or 3.3L??? Either way I hope to find out the specs when I go to the Miami boat show next month..............

Mercury doesn't have a 3.3L motor. How could it be based on that?????

If a 3.3 liter block is indeed in the work, it means that Orbital 2-strokes will be with us for many years to come.

That would be good news.

I was refering to the 3.0 motor design as "based on"..............

I guess all of the questions, rummors and speculation about the 300XS will be answered (hopefully) next month at the Miami boat show.

perhaps they revised the cosworth engine of old???????? is that a possibility?????

The old Cosworth was a 3.4 litre and it was a monster.
But whatever.....wouldn't it be nice if Merc did decide to build further on the Optimax engines?
(a 150 4 cylinder Optimax with internal oil tank and DTS would be my idea for a winning engine) (with the extra low water pickups like the big brother 3.0 litres).

It doesnt take much overbore to get 3.3L out of a 3.0L V6.

5mm to be exact.

what ever jim..... but .200 thousanths is alot for a current design.. perhaps a siamesed cyl set up to increase the borable area based on the external area in the design??? but excuse me jim... we both know we dont agree on lots of things..

they have plenty of bore spacing for 200 thou overbore sleeves. Guys go 4mm over to make 2.7s out of 2.5s, and they don't have near the same engineering capabilitys as the factory does.

Its not like a typical 4 stroke dude.

never sayed it wasnt CAPIBLE.. just sounds to be a bit much in my opinion.. I am sure the merc castings people can shave some meterial out of their block castings and increase the over bore possibilities to an almost infinant end within the design of the exterior block dimensions.. I certainly wouldnt want to take a bone stock 3L pull the sleeves and bore 200 thousandths and reinstall new sleves to fit.. but that is just me.. it might be perfectly fine totally stable and never have a problem.. but that is just me personally.. it probably aint worth crap but it is my opinion..

Well, here's the answer. Stroke not bore and 3.2l not 3.3l.
See Gregs pictures from the Miami boat show.
