Larry, I don't have any experience with Minolta cameras (other than my dad's old school 7000i), but I hear the new DSLRs are pretty good. I know they have Minolta's Anti-Shake feature built into the body, which is cool. For the most part, the limitation will be your skill and the lenses used - not the camera. :) I don't know how well suited the autofocus is to sports on those cameras, but with good glass it should be pretty capable.
