Has anyone mounted a skipole behind the rear seat on a Vegas V? I would imagine it would be the same on an XT. Would like to add a ski pole on ours between the splashwell and the rear seat. Looking for details on how it would be braced and attached to the floor. Pics if possible.

Thanks foir any info!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Some of them go all the way down to the floor, and some of them mount into the deck with braces that attach to the rear corners of the transom. I have the latter, and it allows a forward gas tank mounting position to leave room for the knee braces. It also eliminates the need to drill into the floor.

My Valero had a pilon mounted to the floor right infront of the rear deck behind the seat.. with braces going to transom corners I cant imagnine a vegas would be much different than a valero..

Plan a: take it to John and have a pole installed

what motor did you get?

Plan b: you could buy a well mounted pylon, but I would go with a floor mount, and have the triangulation on the rear deck

Note that tubing puts the biggest loads on a pylon. If you plan on taking grown men tubing, use the rear eyes on the transom, or have John put something heavy duty in.

I would prefer the pole to go right to the floor for more strength. Was thinking it might be good to triangle it back to the rear eyes or even the motor bolts under the splashwell. I don't think it would get in the way of the gas tank.

David, Flatout has a great ski pole install on his new JCraft from John.
As for the motor we found a great deal on a 89 Merc 150 that needed some work for the Vegas. Had it all back together Aug 1 and it ran great the rest of the season. Less than $1500 Canuck bucks into the motor total. Our Vegas has been a real low budget boat!

Any pics guys?

No, no, no, no. Listen:

The braces are mounted to the pylon near the top where all the pull is. Very little of that stress is actually absorbed by the deck. The rear corners are very strong areas, no big deal. You may have to dig out some deck foam to mount the attachments. The ones that go all the way to the floor have no strength adventage. The floor-mount pylon with NO braces is a very clean easy install, but not as strong as the braced pylon. I have never head of someone damaging a pylon or snapping the brace pins, the rope is much more likely to break first. (DUCK!!)

The only disadvantage to the braced pylon is that the braces and the mounts get in the way when you're boarding. They hurt if you step on them.

Pulling a big guy on a tube by the transom eyelets is still a good idea, just to play it safe.

here is my valeros pylon.. and fer tubing I reccommend a full tower supported by 4 points regardless of boat.. same with wakeboaring.. even on my aluminum fissing boat I have pulled hooks out through 3/4" thick transom sheeting....

Go to the Hydrostream Registry and head to members pics. Look under Valero and go to "Jim from New Jersey" blue and white boat. It shows a good shot of the pylon that Pyro is talking about.

pyros right on. i have bent several poles on my voyagers but they bend above the support attachments that go back to the tramsom. rex marine has a pole built out of some heavuy duty alumium..

On mine, the braces attach very close to the top of the pylon, it does not, and cannot, flex at all. Because of the brace arrangement, there is very little force applied to the deck by the base of the pylon.

If you get the kind without braces, it will need to go all the way down to the floor, and there will always be some flex. BUT, no braces to get in the way...
