It won't go a hundred but it is fast enough in the rough stuff to scare just about anyone. He whipped my a$$ in flat water and my old stream ran over 80mph.

that is my exact boat dude..if it wouldnt be too much trouble, could you get me the specs that he used to set up his boat..my concern is the cost factor involved, and work to convert the big blocks to bracket...I really like the fact of outboards. I had a step v with twin 2.5's..ran sweet,82gps,but then came along this cat.it's under way of being re-powered,but cant decide ....with outboards, even mid 80's to 90 would be sweet......:D thanks for the info...happy holidaze!

I have a 1988 27 Daytona. This is the same hull as today's 28 with slightly different steps. I have owned it since new. Started with 275 Johnson V8/s. 80 mph tops. in 1991 put on triple 2.5 efi 260 hp. Went 100 mph. Got sick of maintaining 2.5's and went to twin 2004 300x's. Now can get 90 mph, but mostly 85 with gas and passengers. Boat runs great. Motors are awesome. Funny thing is that for everyday use the boat uses exactly same amount of fuel with twins as triples. Problem with boat is it only has 2-50 gallon tanks and its not enough. Only get an hour and a half.

thanks rsess!!!! I'm looking into 3 ,4l johnsons@ 300hp each. I also have an engine builder that will build 2 600hp, 580ft lbs tq big blocks..based on hp vs weight, it will cost about the same..In spoke to eliminator in CA who advised that my daytona at 810hp will top at 81mph..I'm thinkin that 1200hp should help reach mid 90's...think I'm on the right track? thanks again:confused:

Don't waste you time or money on the OMCs,my other buddy has a 32 Hydratech Cat with triple 300 V-8,has never made a trip and returned with all three running, its either a bad ignition, blown gearcase or blown powerhead. They are ok on a fishing boat but won't put up with blasting 90 mph no matter what you do to them.Hang 2- 300x's on there and go have fun.My other buddy has a 30ft Motion Cat for sale,it has 2-300PM and runs 115mph.I think he wants 55k.

Go with three Simon 335's. They are awesome. These motors aren't lazy like the stock 300's. The throttle respoonse is awesome and they are very reliable.

pcgriffin01,
If you come down here with 38,000 cash, you can hook the one in the pictures up and take it home with you.It belongs to my best friend and it needs nothing, motors are fresh. He paid almost 12 for the trailer and its been wet about 10 times, beautiful Myco all aluminum, the hull is original gel never painted or left outside,do yourself a favor and at least come look at it before you spend all the time and money to rig the other one.Dude it is the cleanest 28 Daytona you will ever see in your life,no bull$hit. Here is the link (http://www.netgazers.net/~lmp/Daytona/index.htm),

Thats strange, had mine 13 years now (bought used). It runs mid 90s (best of 97mph) with totally stock 3.6 GTs. Runs on reg gas, and still oil injected. Get 17 GPH average every year. Pulls 32" props almost to redline. What more could you ask for?! Plus entire package (including triple axle trailer) cost less than two 300Xs.

You must be the luckiest OMC owner on earth,I owned a 4.0 Johnson and it was nothing but problems. You say you turn 32s to red line and have never had any trouble with those piece of $hit OMC lowers, again you are one of the few or you don't put many hours on them.

Hey Skatin - I have a 24 Active Thunder cat with the same motors you have. How fast does yours go?

So far I have run 116mph. I am still working on it and should be around 120mph by spring.

OK! Please give me the specifics like gear ratios, props, etc. Mine came with 32" 3 blade cleavers and supposidly did 110. Scared the F--k out of me. The way it accelerated and raised the bow and all. I got a pair of 29 1/2 Hydromotive thru hubs and had them drilled with ventilation holes which improved things. Wanted better hole shot so I got a pair of drilled 25's which did improve hole shot but not by much. Boat was set up for total top end but I am willing to sacrifice some for better lower end. My boat has 12" setback brackets in addition to the jacks and the lowest jack setting puts my props at 1" above the bottom of the boat. Great for trailering and top end but not good for hole shot. I want better. I can easily lower the motors only 1 1/2" - worth it? Best I've seen so far is 75 GPS with the 25's until I ran out of lake - there was probably another 10 there with proper trimming and jacks. Havent had enough lake yet to air out the 29.5"s

I have run many props but my favorite are 3 blade 15X34 Merc labbed cleavers. 1.62 gears. 5 1/2 Inch set back, motors jacked all of the way up and still need to go up more. If your bow seems a little light add some weight. I have 60 lbs in the nose of my boat to balance it out.

I am not known for luck, unless its bad! Never said I didn't have any problems with lowers. I think everyone does that runs outboard gearcases with high X dims. It goes with the territory! That said, I have three seasons now on one gearcase, and over 500 hrs now on one motor. I use only the latest 92'-95' gearcase parts, and a few tricks that seem to help. I have never had a 4.0, but from what I heard, I wouldn't. I am not at all against Mercs. Matter of fact, I PMed someone on this thread to ask about their 300Xs on the same boat, and never received a response. Think that's why this thread got me going. Glad to see mine runs way better!:)

Hi there. Daytona 27 you pmed me way back in October when I did not know what a pm was. I saw it there recently and decided it was too old to reply. If you read post number 5 here, I posted my numbers. Boat runs great now, but is probably not as fast as I would like. I run at 5500 rpm, 80 mph as a cruise speed. Boat is solid as a rock. Top speed 90 mph on gps on a real cool day. Motors suck gas 30 gpm each between cruise and top speed on smartcraft. There is no difference in consumption between 5500 and 6700 rpm. Gas tanks are too small. Boat has cost me a fortune over the years, but I really enjoy the size and depth of the cockpit for friends and family safety. Cockpit is like a 32 foot offshore size. Again sorry for the lack of response. Bye for now.

Hey Skatin - I moved the two batteries as far forward in the bow that I could which helped alot. Then I got real radical and decided to enlarge the cockpit forward 3 feet redo the entire instrument panel, and move the helm from the left to the right side. This is currently in progress. My motors are mounted on 12" setback brackets with another 5.5" setback from the jacks. If I could just figgure out an easy way to get my motors lower....

Tj309.. it isnt a boat that will holeshot very well nomatter what you do.... the tunnel fills with water as the bow rises.... quit killing a good 100 + mph setup and learn how to drive it at that speeds.. if you want a boat that will holeshot get a V hull.. or better yet ince you are trying to kill the top speed and only run 75 with it trade it in on a built Mastercraft.....

WHY on earth are you moving the CoG forward??????? it will never fly right and now it will be EXTREEMLY bow heavy.....
