has anyone tried the megiuars unigrit paper, they claim it to be better than other papers because of more consistant grain size.
the paint on the hood of my truck has some damage presumably from acid rain.
I sanded a small section of the hood last weekend with some 2500 grit 3m paper, however the finish still has some scratches here and there from sanding.
I can get them out with my rotory, but it takes some work, if meguiars claims are true, this step should be simpler

anyone???

Don't know about the Meguier's product but I was always told that when it comes to sandpaper and masking tape, 3M is God.

Get yourself a milwaukke buffer, two sided wool buff pad,3m rubbing compound, they sell it in quarts go over it then switch to a black waffle pad with a 3m swirl remover, then hand glaze it 3m. You cant get it any better....

All the magic is in the buffing process that follows the wet-sanding. Don't skip and steps. In my opinion, wool is sloppy and inconsistent. Basically, you're spinning little round fiber hairs on the finish. I prefer foam pads, which have more even coverage, and they don't "glaze over." Regular 3M rubbing compound is like liquid sandpaper, very gritty. Whatever you use, follow up with Meguiar's "Swirl remover", then finish with Meguiar's "Machine Glaze" on a fresh pad. Glass-perfect results, ready for your favorite wax.

ive tried buffing the damage out with my milwaukee rotary, but it just aint enough. thats why i tried the sandpaper, which works well, just a pain to get some of the deeper scratches out.
BTW, i use foam pads too but on my porter cable, they are awsome at removing swirls and cobwebbing! I want to get my hood all squared away before i put my zaino on it.

John, Check out the new Zaino Z-PC. it'll take out scratches as corse as 1500 grit  and its reminants disolve in ZFX.

ps- the "diminishing" compound that it uses makes it basically less and less grit as its buffed, so after using it the surface is ready for z2. very neat stuff.

Foam pad, Microfinishing cmpd, Finesse it III, Swirl/haze remover. 3M products are all in which I use. Use seperate pads for each application.

Wow! I bought an adaptor to use my foam pads on my rotary buffer and wow what a difference! Swirl marks and scratch marks from sanding came right out, ill post some pictures once i get this all done.

the wetsanded surfaces that i have sanded and buffed have awsome optical clarity!

heres the steps i've found to work well

1 wetsand with 2000 grit 3m paper
2 buff with meguiars #85 and wool pad at 1750rpm
3 buff with meguiars #84 and foam cutting pad 1750rpm
4 buff with meguiars #83 and foam polishing pad 1750rpm
5 have a beer! I dont even need to use my porter cable
