Wanna get some more ponies outta this motor without really hurting the reliability. So I have come to the experts. What can I do to this 90* crossflow to gain some horses. It currently is still on the VRO oil injection system. I have done all the preliminary work like jackplate, prop etc..etc.. but still wanna gain some horses. Ok folks give me some ideas as I am not really familiar with OMC's.

The engine was made in 140 hp versions by the factory. A number of bolt-on items will help get you close to this rating. You will need the 1 5/16" carbs. Your carbs do not have butterflies for the choke, so be sure to get the right ones. A set of 140 heads p/n 322864/865 will work great. Get 4 intake filler blocks 322684 for the intake manifold. Lose the metal reeds and go with a set of composite reeds- will help your idle and mid range-also will not damage the engine if they break. If you want to get into a complete teardown and machining, you can enlarge the intake and exhaust and exhaust ports. Your block is not ported the same as the 140, so this will help. Also when apart, get the 392000 exhaust filler blocks and have them installed in the block. You will need to deck/machine the exhaust surface. Get the 115/140 exhaust bubble covers to complete the exhaust work. This should get you close to the 140 crankshaft hp of the early 140's and it will run reliably. Run 93 octane after these mods. You can get into cutting heads, but you will need someone else on the board to give you that advice. Some of these parts are NLA, but there are plenty around and are reasonably priced.
