Gearcase Cracked Can It Be Welded???

HELLO YA`LL JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYBODY HAD SOME INPUT!! I HAVE A GEARCASE THAT HAD SOME WATER IN IT LAST WINTER THAT FROZE AND IT CRACKED THE HOUSING CAN THIS BE WELDED OR SHOULD I GET ANOTHER HOUSING?? THIS IS ON A STOCK MOTOR STANDARD UNIT NOTHING HI-PO AND THE CRACK IS TOWARDS THE PROP SHAFT ON THE SIDE ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT THANKS!!!

if ya have a pic post it , it may help determin if it is a fixable crack or not.. but check around first empty stock cases can be found here for fairly inexpensivly.. so do yer home work before ya go to get it fixed and end up buyin a new case cause the weld fractured durring the cooling process and the case wont seal...

Thank`s For The Info Nick I Do Have Another Housing But I Was Curious As To If It Could Be Done But I`m Like You ,i Probably Will Not Take The Chance And Just Swap Housings Thank`s For The Pm!!

nicks right it needs to be heated slowly then welded and cooled very slowly. the cost would be more than a good used housing.

Don't waste good money trying to band aid a broken leg.Get a good shell and have your guts put in it by somebody with experience.When you get it back pull out the drain plug every trip or two to see whats going on with the gear lube,that little precaution can save you lots of $$$$ in the end.

Hello Marc I Thank You For The Offer But I Think I`m Going To Replace The Unit. I Have A New Housing I`ll Just Transplant The Internals From The Busted One To The New One But Maybe I`ll Try To Stop By Your Shop And Show You The Busted One Maybe It Could Be Fixed If So Maybe It Could Be A Backup Housing!!
