i was thinking of dropping a 2.4 chrome bore on a 260 mid. would this combination of the big tube and one piece adapter work for the 2.4? or is it too much volume and not enough water psi.

260 style cooling and 1 piece adapter generally is only used on 8Krpm + engines as there is as you said a high volume of water and low pressure under that rpm but if yer spinnin those rpms you will need that cooling ability to keep her in temp..

U won't have a problem, just run the restrictors in the heads, I run the poppit also...wuz run on a 260 mid for it'z intire life, and No problem...
The only drawback iz it will not build heet in the winter time and cold water!!

I also put a 2.4 on a 260 exhaust plate and late 2.4/early 2.5 mid. Had no water preasure even when I ran it up to 3000. T-stats and poppet are still in it and no water came out of the heads. Should I take T-stats out and put restrictors in? Also, should I keep both hoses coming off the heads or run one off the exhaust plate.....
