OK, here's the deal. It's always great having 2 mercs vs 1 until it comes time to upgrade parts. I'm looking for the advantages and dis advantages to buying new Brucato PCU vs sending my existing Mercury 2.4 Bridgeport ECU's to Rapair for them to rework and change from analog to digital. 2 Brucato's will cost me approx. $2400 and the Rapair method about $1000. In addition, I may be buying or reworking a third for my 2.4 sandrail project. Even though Brucato is a sponsor of this site and a I have found them to be a very reputable company that I have dealt with in the past I would like true feedback from those of you who have experienced both Brucato and Rapair and why the extra $1400-$2100 is or is not worth it! Thanks in advance for the honest feedback. Cheers, JG

It really depends on what your needs are. If you're looking for maximum performance and tuning ability, nothing will match the PCU. You'll also save a lot of fuel with the PCUs over a standard ECU. Better idle, better midrange, and better top end plus better fuel ecomomy. That's what you'll get with the PCU.

tozlakes,
I would suggest you give Tony Brucato a call and ask him why he started the PCU project. Ask him about the functional differences between the two boxes. The answer to those questions are the answers to your questions.
My opinion is that in the long run you will spend less and have way less down time with the PCU. You will also have better performance. You are assuming that Sean will get it perfect the first time. If he does not, or if you need tweaks later there will be down time.
If you are racing in a class that requires the merc box, then the decision has been made for you.

Ok, here is how I see it.
1st, the brucato can be mouted in the boat and you should.
So if you have 2 engine and one boat, wala, you only need one! But you will need 2
Unless both are on at the same time.(as you are) I hope!!!
You can change the fuel curl for ever 500 rpm level.
You can change the over all curve.
And you can hook your laptop also to plot it.
You can have a steam wheel to rich or lean the mix and the sterring wheel.
And if you change to a 2.5 or other engine with the same type fuel system.
You can use the same system.
Also you will not find a better person to help you then Tony!
I have even been to his house, and he personal trained me on how to work it.
And he set it up.
It's a no brainer!
And it was hard for me to pop the money.
I have a EFi, pro max system
and I could never get the PCU correct.
Well bud this one did.
And I have made changes to the engine that would have had me to return it again to rapair.
Well money and time saved!!!
Also you can sell what you have!!

The PCU is definitely going to perform better because you can dial it in perfectly. However, the Rapair unit is a bolt on and go and you have little risk of blowing your motors up if you are not familiar with what you are doing. Both can be mounted in the boat. The Rapair unit will be crisper and better performing then the stock Merc. It will also get better mileage. Its really apples to oranges. If you plan on running a 2.5 later vs a 2.4, then on the Rapair you would just change the chip. On the PCU you would reprogram it. If you want to save coin, the Rapair unit is definitely better then a stock Merc digital and WAAAAAYYYYY better then the old 2.4 analog. The PCU has the advantage with adjustability for peak performance. We have run both units and both are excellent quality , durability and performance. The PCU will win if you were to run the 2 side by side. Topend or dragging. Again its because you can specifically tune each area the motor needs more precisely.

Thanks for everyones opinion. I new the Brucato was the way to go but wanted to here other experiences. Tony, if you are out there I would like for you to send me pricing on 2 complete PCU's with the steam wheel adjustments on the dash. Just had 2 sets of injectors cleaned and tested with replacement of 7 injectors, purchased a PCU for the DCB and sending in those injectors after the holidays. Tony, Is there some sort of price break for multiple purchases and S&F memebers? You can respond to the email below if you prefer. Thanks JG
