Hey Brothers........

Could any one tell me what type of transom saver device is reccomended for my 2.5 Sport and Bullet boat when trailering.......I have read where the Name brand transom saver can damage the lower unit.......

I looked at the m-y wedge and I don't have the posts on my Sport for that style motor support........can anyone of yall help a Brother out........

Sea dog makes a transom saver that hooks from engine bracket at the jackplate and pins in to the resting arms of the tilt tube, keeps it from bouncing but doesnt offer alotof support to the boat its self but it loads the trim system and all the force is displaced to where it is designed to be set at.. .. a standard transom saver can be fitted with a internal spring that rests against the bolt that sets the length, and that will help cusion the bumps that the LU takes.. I have used both with success but my boat isnt exactlly a comparison to a bullet so others with the same hull could give better reccomendations.. in 17 years I havent had a problem with the standard transom saver on the LU provided the ruber pads are kept in good shape and there is a way to displace the road shock if a BIG bump is hit,

I'll check out the Sea dog.......I purchased a new transom saver with the spring loaded shock absorber......then a Buddy told me get rid of it ....a few good bumps in the road with it attached to the lower can cause a problem for the lower unit......I took it back to Academy......funny thing is he couldn't tell me just what problems it causes for the lower unit.....

By the way ........Love yer Avatar.....

thanks Bro.......

With the abuse a L/U takes when running, hitting small sticks, the stresses of turns, etc. I find it highly unlikely that a transom saver could ever cause a problem with a L/U.

I had one years ago with a spring and can not find them anymore.

Who makes them?
One we had was round shaft, spring was internal. All aluminum.

If a transom saver serves to keep the motor from flexing and stressing the transom over bumps, why the hell would you want one with a shock absorber spring? I don't really see the point.

I have a saver with the pivoting vee piece that cradles the lower unit and keeps the steering straight, but it screwed up my LU paint job.

I use one that has neoprine bumpers inside that gives it some shock protection. I think this is useful since the boat can move and shift slightly on the trailer when underway - especially over bumps, and that extra slack will help. I install the transom saver and 'preload' it a little, which works perfectly.

I'll never tow without it.

The spring acts to buffer the movement that can happen within the tolerances of the bushings... It can also buffer some of the stress that your trailer can send into your transom saver... Ballistic Bullet, if the roads in your area are smooth and well maintaned you might not need a transom saver... Some of the people at Bullet Boats didn't necessarily recommend one when I worked in a Bullet dealership In 1995, although I always use one since my trailer is too low for a vertical position... I believe it will help to have one if someone gives you an accidental " love tap " with their bumper from behind

If they do hit it, I can promiss you, it will not be a love tap! I don't care how soft it is!

Well, if ya live here in the south. Have some redneck on a Saturday morning (or friday night, depending on how ya look at it) coming at you, and you head for the shoulder, hit a good pot hole, and the engine jumps up, that spring can take up the play. And your saver will not come off the lower roller, flip under the engine, come around and whap the crap out of your covers! The bongie strap is holding it on the lower unit and it's on for the ride. We have done it! And I say we!
Just ask THE FAST ONE.

What are the people with Vegas' using? My trailer doesn't hang back behind the pad, so there isn't a straight shot from the LU to the trailer.

Jeff If ya need I can build ya a transom safer OR I know where to find a prebent angled one.

the spring equiped transom saver I use is a SHOCK-EZE by sea dog line.. as well as a Traileze bracket mounted TILT saver as I wouldnt trully call it a transom saver..
