I have a V8 Johnson with the VRO system removed, but suspect that the sensor is still working.
It makes a high pitched, whistle alarm thats giving me a headache.
It is mostly constant but sometimes varries to an intermittant chirp.
Is this the Oil sensor?
(I've only had the boat fro 2 weeks.
Thanks
Evan

Sounds like the overheating alarm. I just ignore that crap. Of course, I've blown four motors this summer!!

Constant horn is overheat. Rapid beep is oil pump failure, beep every 30 seconds or so is low oil. Assuming you don't have a temp gauge. I don't know anything about the V-8s but I know the OMC thermostats are junk.
If you get a constant horn, pull the cowl and touch the heads. If you lose your fingerprints, you've isolated the problem.

not to but in on evans post but the boat has temp gauge, reads normal, no overheating as I have worked on the boat, and nothing out of ordenary was found, 110-120 PSI across board on compression, good pee stream from tattell tail runs smooth once up to temp, little cold blooded though

Are all sensor wires isolated and insulated? Perhaps you need to determine which ones they are, and disconnect them from the control/alarm end, or remove them altogether?

Make sure you check all the tan wiring for anywhere they could contact a ground. In particular, if the VRO has been disconnected, the oil tank harness has probably been removed, which may leave a short, tan wire that comes out of the engine harness exposed. I haven't actually disabled a VRO setup on a V8, but I've done it an many other motors - you need to check for this and tape it off correctly. The exact wiring setup for the VRO will depend on what year your V8 is and if the pump has been updated at any point in the past.
Also check that you battery terminals are clean and tight, and you might go into the control box as well to see if anything's haywire in there. Don't run a motor with the horn going off ! It's telling you something isn't right !
