Hi there I'm a new member so please bear with me !

I am in the process of fitting a Promax 300x with a Torquemaster box (I think it is one of the last of it's kind to come out of the Merc Factory in the states and one of the last two stroke 300x's ever to be sold in the world !!!)

(or so I am told !!!)

Anyhow I am also told the Torquemaster is and will be ideal for my boat which is a reasonably heavy 19' Haines Signature 1900s (Australian made ski boat).

I understand that the Torquemaster is rated to 85Mph and is better suited to bow lift for a heavier boat which is pretty much my boat and the Sportmaster is designed for higher jacking and up to and beyond 100Mph.

My question is this:

If my boat (in terms of set up and prop configuration) is capable of speeds in excess of 85Mph (taking into account the Torqumaster has no factory nose cone and I don't have one fitted yet etc) if the boat was capable of speeds in excess of 85 Mph what will the effect be on the gearbox in terms of wear on bearings etc? will it handle these speeds or will it fly into tiny little bits??

Appreciate your feed back

Many Thanks

you will get blow out at the high 80s . jerry does not think you are gonna hurt the case unless you jack it ot the moon....

Hey there Jerry,

Thanks for your feedback, I figure that if the boat is capable of producing late 8's then an aftermarket nose cone is required to prevent blowout and in terms of jacking my setup may prevent too much of this especially without a low water p/up. So thanks I was told it is a heavy duty case compared to the SM but I was not sure if that mean it would handle the top end

The T/m & S/M units have all the same internal parts, only the housings are different. I have ran the T/M housings into the mid 80's on 21 foot Allison & Bullet boats without a hint of blowout.

torque master gear cases also have LWP in the front of the bullet AS WELL AS the side pickups, high 80's is about max simply due to the shorter profile.. the sport master has been tested successfully to 130 mph on some boats.. I dont forsee a need for a cone untill you master the setup and running attitude of your boat, UNTILL then just run it and then if ya need it take it to titus and have him cone it for ya..

Hey guys,

thanks for your feedback have a lot to learn about this one but your advice has been very helpful, I feel it will push my boat a little quicker than my old unjacked 225 Vindicator which went POP !!!!! in a big way !!

Many thanks for your help !

cheers Brett

Hi, I have a 1997 3 litre 225efi on a an 18ft kevlar australian bullet, runs a torque master with alumnium nose cone.

The early tm's (no low water pick up) had a problem with getting hot at high revs and stuffing seals & letting in water (design fault). Later ones with low pick up didn't have this issue.

I had the early one that had the seals done twice in 110hrs (all done at high revs). Last time stuffed the gears so got the new one on insurance. No problems since.

In SMOC ski racing in Aus I heard that the TM was a quicker box to run than a SM (at least up till 90 odd mph anyway), so a few where swapping the SM's on theier 250xs's for TM's!!!

Run the cone, less drag the better.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

A nosecone will create more drag as it creates a greater surface area. Do not run a cone unless you need to, ie: if you start to have blowout problems. I have a customer with similar horsepower on a haines - seems they like the motor pretty low. If you see mid 80's I think you will be doing very well. TM out of the box in my opinion.
