Contact a patent attorney that specializes in your type of invention.
There are Patent attorneys that specialize in mechanical inventions, others that specialize in software, others specialize in clothing, etc.

Expect to spend approximately $6,000 to $15,000 to do the whole process correctly. If it's a great marketable idea, it's money well spent.

Don't tell anybody else about your idea! This can weaken your claims to your own idea.
