Wayne Weeks from Jay Fla. set the NOA Kilo record in the early 80's with a Vector powered by an RS Johnson. It was originally a hundred and low teens but I believe the last year he ran there he upped it to 118 and change. As far as I know nobody has ever verified a faster speed in one.

For those who don't know, the RS Johnson is the same as the CCC Evinrude. They were OMC's race version of the old crossflow and had 6 two barrel carbs on a short, race type mid section with a race gearcase similar to Merc's speedmaster. At one time the factory team engines had the Bendix mechanical injector, but as far as I know Wayne only had the carb version.

Incidentally, Nitros was NOT legal for NOA unlimited V bottom records.

....I know he's on the Byuboyz site a lot, I think he comes here too, but I'm not sure what he posts as. Raceman's probably been as fast as 102 himself. He and Wayne Weeks used to race each other a fair bit.

Yup, I sharpened the keel real good, and used an advancing rake 34" 7 blade prop I just designed. Kinda looks like a monster corkscrew.

yeah hydrovector, thats a great thread, ill be reading it again now which is good.. i havent had my vector all that fast yet really but i was a little gun shy when i 1st got it cause i had a few broken ribs, but the guy i bought it from ,richie, said he had his 260 on it for a saturday afternoon and hit 108mph on gps when he started slowing down..
after i blueprint the bottom this winter im hoping to hit a buck with it which shouldnt be too hard with 300hp or so.. i have a 6 pack intake im putting on the sleeved 260 block i am building and i cant wait to give it a try!! -sean
