View Full Version : 28 Trophy Plus vs Lab 28 Trophy Plus
Hi whats the difference between a standard 28 trophy and the lab ground version. Is the Lab version worth the extra $$$. Any suggestions on the best place to purchase
Thanks

I figure you will see 2 to 3 mph from labbing an already good prop. And 3 to 5 labbing a sorry prop. I have my props labbed before i buy them.

jerry has never had any luck with labbing . if you think its gonna help try your prop first then send it to them and see what happens .before you do it right down all the whos a muchwahts it about yours . the holeshot ( how quick) top end , bow lift and the other crap , than send it ....

Hydropromax's answer is not right. The thread is specific to TrophyPlus'.
Holeshot & Topspeed are great out of the box. Its factory cup is the key to its performance. Labbing will screw up a good one. Labbing may get you back 1-2mph from a whipped prop that has allready lost 3-4mph.
Holeshot may get better like jerry says...but at the expense of top end & paper thin blades. They launch great stock.
Leave it alone. Bash listens. Bash watch's. Bash learns. http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/6707/devil0fo.gif (http://imageshack.us)

Unless they have changed the 28" trophy, they would both make good boat anchors. The 27" trophy is a much better prop, and in reality is a little over 28" pitch.

Everyone has there own answer. Call Mercury for the true answer. I buy my props from Hydromotive and he guarentees it to be faster when it is labbed when getting a certain cut of prop. ;)

-"Call Mercury"
-"Herb's 28Trophy is an anchor on his Intimidator"
-"Send me your old trophy. I'll get you more speed out of it" Ha Ha !!http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3105/devil5zo.gif (http://imageshack.us)
I like the idea of trying it stock and then sending it off to be labbed. Do Mercury have different lab specifications, ie: are all the labbed props of same size/style the same ?
I also heard that the new 28 Trophy is different to the old, is this the case ?

Boger is the trophy guy. I'd spend the extra dough and have him work it if it were mine. I believe there was a back to back comparison done on some of his Trophy props somewhere here. Use the search and see if you can find a link. From what I have heard, he is the best with them. I'd go there before having Merc lab one although they probably would do fine with it. You are more likely to get a free tweaking to get it just right with an aftermarket prop man .

I would send it Boger. I have a 25 Boger and it has better holeshot and lift plus it is about 2-3mph of my stock 26 plus. It seems to handle better. My 2 cents.

Let's define "Lab Finish" Is is making the prop lighter,or thinning the blades? I have had props "Reconditioned" whiched is rebalanced anf trued, but never "Labbed"
I have a used stock 24P trophy plus that just added 8 MPH to my top end and I am afraid to mess with it.. Would the lab hurt my top end?
