Factory manual says: "A belt tensioning tool (obtrain locally) may also be used to adjust belt tension. Adjust belt tension to 80 lbs."
The Factory manual also says:
Deflection 1/2 inch under 22 lb. ft. side load
So what tool is everyone using? Or what procedure do you use?
For years I have simply set it by feel and haven't experienced any problems...however, I now have a customer with a 2001 3.0 litre EFI that has broken his belt several times in one year. I spun the alternator by hand and it feels free and smooth. So are we running the belt too loose or too tight?
I bought a Gates Krikit 1V--belt tension guage
Tried setting it with that and it sure feels too tight for my liking.
