Can some one make a guess at how much HP a 300 drag will make that has had the rod slots enlarged and running 150 psi heads.I know it will be a guess but It will give me some thing to shoot at.

You will lose power with the low compression heads attached to a Drag motor verses the higher compression heads that come stock on that motor. As far as the rod slots its according to who did the work I've seen them done with a ton taken out and it hurt the overall power due to the creation of too much volumn and I've seen them done and enhance power ! Dunno......Lowering the compression on a Drag motor from stock 175-180 to 150 will compromise its ability to make its potiential maximum power thats for sure how much will it hurt it maybe 20 - 30 HP..( thats a guess )

Good luck.....

I agree with Jay's comments and can add in my experience that a drag with 36ish cc heads is a real pooch. A 260 will give it fits unless you wind it into orbit. I went down this road years ago and was dissappointed with the results. With gas prices so high the race gas is looking nice. I get Turbo Blue 114 delivered to my door for 3.69 a gallon. Go for the hot heads you'll have more fun..

I dont think I can go with the high compresion heads. The moter is on a bullet bass boat and I have been told It wont last long if I run the high compresion heads. How much HP should I get with the higher heads. Is there a difference in HP between a 97 and newer drag motors. What do you guys think.

they dont last long any way, so might as well run tight heads.I have to rering once a year with mo 02.

so long as you use the good oil, and 110+ octane mixed at proper ratio and you dont abuse it to much ( dont do what it wasnt designed to do) (LONG runs up or down stream to a fissin hole) (Provided you use the bullet for fissin) it might last a year or 2 but I would think a 280 would be a more reliable and user friendly powerchoice OR if its a 20+ go with the 3.0L 300X.. still has 100+ with load capabilities and will last ALOT longer for ROUGHLY the same HP.. Assuming 325 for the X and 300 -315 for the drag... twistin the RPM to go fast is onething but it is hard on parts.. slowing the engine down from 10K to 7000-8000 will dramatically increase the lifespan and allow ya to make longer runs without worryinn about cookin the gutts at 10K RPM... that is just my opinion but what do I know... Im prefer HP made by displacment rather than twistin the guts out of a motor.. much over 7K becomes to expensive for me and my wallett.. If I were a bigger player I might look to the drags and their UNLIMITED RPM range but I like to have a few years of event free boating before I have to lay down lots of $$$ to gain HP and compression lost from 1 years of use.. just my .02 and Id be lucky if its worth even that much any more..

I realy dont run over 6000 rpm's much [4000 mostly]and I dont make long runs.About 4 miles is all I go,if that.I fish lake fork and useualy catch fish just in sight of my RV.I already have the drag, been running it for two years. It replaced my blown 260osr.If I can find high octain at a reasonable price.I think I will give it a go.

ask Jay and others what 180 compression requires octaine wise... 100 LL at the airport isnt much more than pump fuel at this point... AND if purchased at the right times 104 and 110 isnt that much either I think I have seen it around 3.XX a gallon recently..
