All my motors that I ever had with oil injection were removed due to the plastic gear that hides on the crank , whats the story with the 3.0 litres do they have the same gear or are they more reliable.

the 300 promax's do have the plastic oil gear. The 300x's do not. I have the 300 promax's and with 300 hours have never had any failure do to the plastic gear. You will get mixed reviews on this one. I also heard on this forum that there has never been a recorded failure to a motor due to the plastic gear, dont know how much truth their is to that??? I really believe these motors were intended for fishing boats turning less than 6k.

I believe the 3.0 250's also have the same plastic gear.

To remove the oil injection on a 250 do you have to remove the brass gear, is it the same as a 200???

One point of interest I recently learned. With injection, you have 100:1 at idle. If you idle alot, you'll have less loading up. On another note, if you idle for a while, the slosh tank on the motor will be full of 100:1 mix right?? What if you then hammer it and run at max rpm. You will be burning 100:1 mix @ 6400 rpm's till the 50:1 mix starts to richen up the "pot" so to speak. Maybe the short duration of this "lean" mix won't hurt the motor.
What's your thoughts on this????
BTW, Eric Simon is putting the oil injection back on the 300's he built for me. That ought to tell you something about it's reliability.

My 98 Promax 300 had the powerhead replaced in 2001 by the previous owner and when I did a re-ring it had the metal oil drive gear. Worried about the 100:1 at idle, just add some oil to your fuel??

not a 250 but my 150 never seemed to have an issue with the leaner oil mix durring acceleration but it also isnt run an extreem amount of RPM.. 5500 max.. MANY hours.. over 3K never touched... so it isnt that unreliable unless you twist over 6K... my motor for the hydrostream will not have it however... more RPM, no room for rigging and oil tank and gear isnt in that good of shape so wouldnt trust it... OTHER than that it has been a fairly reliable system UNDER 6500 RPM IMO
