Why did merc remove 2.5xs from productlist on its site??

The 2.5 xs is being replaced, and they currently have about 12 - 13 in inventory at a great price. Around $12K for the engine from the 14K normal price tag.

2005 as to my knowledge is the final year.

So if your looking for one, you might want to put the deposit down now, or they will all be gone.

But, where is the sense then?? Do they introduce this engine just for one year

that makes no sence to release an engine and then 1 year later discontinue it... They should put back on the 2.5L mid and lower and cowl though.. lotta exrta unnecessary weight being on the 3.0l mid and lower..

The 2.5XS had emissions certification issues for 2006, but Mercury Racing is working to correct that so the engine will be compliant.

It's important to remember that the 2.5XS is a product of Mercury Racing, and it has custom tuning for added performance. There are different emissions ratings that come into play here - namely, Two-Star and Three-Star ratings. The 2.5XS is a Two-Star rated engine.

Maybe because a new, more powerful engine is on its way...

Maybe because no-one bought it...

Emissions is not an issue anyway - Mercury could even sell the 2.5 280 if they wanted, but as an environmentally conscious company they don't want to.

nobody buys a motor in the first year... even if it is just a simple change from the everyday run of the mill motor.

hmmm.... that aint exactly true... merc sold a bunch of 225proXS motors the first year...

and i see a lot of "first year" ETEC, and verado motors out there

my post was in a general sence... sales are always low the fist year due to people not wanting to get stuck with a motor not yet real world tested and having nothing but problems with a brand new engine.. the pro XS wasnt a new motor.. just a slightly tuned up version of the Stocker 225..
