Hey everyone, sort of a newbie here.
Does anyone have a ball park figure on his prices? Who has had work done by him and how much did you pay for it? If you don't feel like posting the amount you paid, can you email me at matt.fisher@rogers.com.
Could someone post his phone number for me too?

Also, within a 3-4 hour drive of Toronto who does good marine painting for a good price? I am interested in the trident pattern for a vking.

Thanks Guys..

People come from the states for his work, what does that tell ya. Call him quick cause he gets a lot of work, especially in the winter. He did one of my best friends boats and it is 2x as strong as when it came from the factory, could not find a single flaw. You get what you pay for. Considering the fact that you know it is done perfectly hes very reasonable.

He just made me some Allison style seats for what I thought was a fair price and they are works of art. I don't think he can be considered "cheap" but you get what you pay for!

I don't think price is a problem when fixing up an old boat!
It's the craftsmanship and quailty of the materials used!
And John and his people are 2nd to NONE.

I know I wouldn't want to pay Joe Shmoe a few grand to fix my boat and find out the work done wasn't good enough and the boat is falling apart in the middle of the season. Because thats when you smack yourself, and end up taking it to John anyway!

The guys that are serious about this sport take there pride and joy to the right place in the first place.

Just beware :)

His work is worth what ever he charges...If you are looking to save money (as I am) I suggest doing some of the work yourself. I'm looking at core replacement so I plan to do the crap work of gutting the boat and taking it up to John for core installation. That saves him time and me money. I'd call him and see what he says. He's one of the nicest guys you'll meet and you're boat will thank you!!

'streamin..I still don't understand how you run 83+ with a 150!! That's awesome!

Price is not an option when your exceeding 100 mph, that check is worth it's wait in gold....

John's prices are VERY fair...John does not accept alot of work, because he treats every job as though it was a member of the family.......I have seen alot of work around the area, you DO get what you pay for....

I haven't taken the time yet, but I will scan some of the photos of the way I split my boat down the middle and what was done to repair the damage. From coring my coreless hull, to vacuum bagging all repairs to ensure the strongest of bonds and lightest of repairs while maintaining the integrity of the original design is his forte

If you don't want yours repaired, buy a NEW boat from the Canadian Hydrostream legal dealer ;)

John needs to increase his prices. He has too much work. Supply and demand are out of sync. I can say that now because I just got my boat back. I still owe him $44.

There are three questions here

1. Are John's prices good. Yes.
2. Can you afford him? That's for you to decide
3. Should you go anywhere else? No.

Maybe you should buy the red V King John is restoring.

John is the best glass guy I know.

What the guys above said is exactly right, he is the man. He is not speedy, but he does it right or not at all. I think right now he is turning away work ( not my place to say and a call to him is the best idea ), but that is just how busy he is. And you sure don't get that busy by doing ****ty work!.

Trikki, got your MSG, I was at Johns in the steel building and my cell doesn't work in there.
Give me a shout sometime.......

Andrew, maybe you forgot to change to Imperial on the GPS!! J/K. Had some repairs to my pad last winter and some chips/holes filled in the transom area. Good workmanship, should have straightened the hook a little while he had it in the air, but cheaped out! As everyone says, the pressure on that little pad at 80+ MPH must be huge, repairs must be reliable, and they were for me. Bogman, get your sled out yet?

DoctorC how does one cool a sled like that running it in the dirt track??? Always wondered that????

DoktorC

We put quick connectors in one of the cooling lines and after the run (500' and return) we hook it up to a "cool down cart" (a barrel of water and a bilge pump) and circulate the water until it's cool. We don't run antifreeze in the summer just straight water....it's not good to forget about that once the weather turns cool :)...

What bout' the sliders?

DoktorC
11-04-2005, 06:23 PM
No sliders. We install 12-15 smaller wheels inside the rear suspension to give better track pressure and keep the track off the rails. This is a full blown stock class race sled...the ameteur guys just run them how you would in the winter, most without cool down (yikes).

Yep that's from Cookstown..the last race of the year. Now we have to get ready for winter.

TXM helped us out when we first got started and he ported my trail sled so we left his name on the sled but he actually hasn't touched either of our current sleds.

What bout' the sliders?I've seen guys around here use plumbing antifreeze dripping on the sliders as a lube. Gravity feed.

No need for color.
If I did add stripes or something they would be decals, and I don't really like decals.
