...just registered this morning after finding the site, seems theres a lot of good info and folks here. I live on the Harris chain of lakes in central Florida, the current project is a 1987 Seebold Eagle 21-V with a 200 Black Max which is essentially stock with the exception of a low-water pickup cone. My bro-in-law and I have been tinkering around with different prop/engine height combinations for the last month or so and we are finally beginning to see some results :D . Boat started out only running 47 mph gps @ 6200 rpm, engine 4.5" below the pad, and a 15" x 26p surface prop. After several props changes, we finally broke the 50 mph barrier. Last weekend we added a jackplate and positioned the engine at 1" below the pad and seen 63 mph gps. The cool weather that recently moved into the area finally pushed us to the 70mph mark @5800 rpm with a 15" X 24p that a friend had lying around.

Sorry for the long intro...:o

Welcome!! There's a tradition on here for newbies that they have to post pics of their wife and/or girlfriend. Kind of an initiation thing. ;) ;)

Hi Dave,, what is that blue thing on the gearcase?? what engine height did you run at 70?? a guy I know has the same boat, and he is having trouble dialing it in.

You could probably pick up a couple mph if you remove that blue prop guard.:D

Welcome to the board.

Thanks guys, that photo is actually one I found on th eweb after I bought the boat. I was doing some research on the Eagle and was quite suprised to actually find the boat I bought at a dealership which I believe was in the Tampa area.

Phillip12: The 70 mph figure was on a very cool day here last week; the 200 runs awesome with the cooler air, before the cold front moved in the boat took 20+seconds to get on plane. With the cool air, it pops up in less than 4 sec. It does take a while to get to the max. mph. The prop shaft is currently 1" below the pad and we are running a re-cupped 15 x 24 Merc. prop we borrowed from a bud that previously had it on a 14' drag boat. Tell your friend to be patient, I was beginning to thing I would never break the 50 mark. Also, the 200 was recently "proffesionally rebuilt" according to the ad I found online...

I am certainly no expert but a number of guys I have spoken to at local shops while looking for props claim the hull is capable of going 90 mph with a slightly modified 200 and the right prop... just heresay, but I plan to get everything I can out of it before I actually start the resto. I'll post the results as they come, hopefully our trial and error will help someone out there.
I forgot to mention that when I bought the boat the windshield and port side pedestal seat were gone. the significance here is that while making a few runs one afternoon the back seat bottom was trying to fly out of the boat with all of the air that was entering the cockpit. . This thing probably weighs 12 to 15 pounds... We figured the drag from all this turbulence must be having a bad affect on the speed so Rick layed down on the floor and I tucked down between the dash and starboard seat, we watched the gps come up another 3 mph, so don't discount the affect of wind drag when trying to get the top end. Plans are in place to fabricate a new shield for the Eagle as soon as I get a chance to find a local supplier of smoked lexan. Hope this helps....
More testing this weekend,
Dave

Well the house remodeling project has cut into my testing time pretty significantly, its been a month since I have had the boat out and yesterday I couldn't take it anymore. left the house and went for a ride on the chain of lakes just looking for someone to run circles around the lake with... the only taker I could find was a guy on a ski which ended up not being much competition :D . A few seconds later I thought I grenaded the old 200 when the prop hub spun... so I ended up idling at 1100 rpm back to the house, about 5 miles away, I won't forget to put a spare prop in the boat again.

I'm currently running a Michigan Wheel 24p and still can't get the max the boat/motor is capable of. With approximately 0 degrees of trim(estimate) I can get 60 to 61 gps @ 5500. When I start trimming out the thing comes to life but pegs the tachometer well past the 6000rpm indicator with speed radidly increasing. With the rpm so high, I chicken out before I can see the max gps speed.

Any opinions on the tempest, laser, or other props for a 21' V-hull?

if the prop you have is a 24P rapture it is probably the best prop MI wheel ever built.. they run in the neighborhood of 25-25.5P on average. they LOVE trim.. and with setback will surface without issue.. their down fall as you saw was if they dont have setback the slip like CRAZY!!!!! and speed is hard to get.. as fer the nose cone.. I see no point a better gearcase would be a new torque master with the LWP in the bullet... a full nose cone isnt necessary till 80+ mph
