And why can't merc. make it outa some thing that don't burn up and crack all the damn time?

see if you can find some thin wall pvc that just slips over your water tube and take a knife and bevel the edges so it sets down into the pump housing. i melted mine and thats what i did. seems to work. if that does not work, find a piece of copper that will work. you may have to go to a plumbing supply house for a special size, your local home depot may not have it. my $ .02 worth

There's an air conditioning size in copper that works. Merc gets over 30 bucks for one for the large water tube in the 2.5 and it probably costs them at least 25 cents to build it.

Toilet fill tube at the hardware store. 7 bucks and big enough to make 3 of them.
