Tested the boat yesterday , got a little over 90 with stock promax 300's. I am going to build a couple of my 335's for it and do a little more setup on the boat and see how fast it can go. link to video http://www.simonmotorsports.com/cobra30.wmv

Good question. It was a boat test to find out what it can do stock. It will be a commercial when I make it faster.

All of the video was in the bay.I took it out in the ocean and had a blast. It runs great between 50-85 out there. I am going to get some video out in the ocean in the next couple of weeks. It needs a trim tab and more horsepower.

Cool video. 105 is about the max on that hull. It is a great rough water cat but a little heavy. Kirk duttman used to race the same hull with 350gt Johnsons if I recall and it hauled ass. That hull needs some serious power to make her run. Good luck, and hit some poker run's with it.

Good show. Only one thing missing while you were "testing." Life Jackets;)

That boat went 119 mph with triple 260's.
I weighed it. The hull with batterys weighs 3100#. That's light for a 30' boat.
Trbocharge knows this boat and said it weighed 3000# when it left the factory. Trbocharge (Tony) said this boat would start a porpoise in the 90's, but with a tunnel tab, it would jump to over 100 mph with twins.
Let's see what Eric can get out of it.
She's come a long way..........

I was wearing a jacket on the hard runs, in the video I was giving some freinds rides. Just cruisin.

119 with triple 260's is some serious numbers. A 32 Skater with tripple 280's will only get you about 116 or close to that range. I did not know those hulls were that fast. Alaskastreamin do you miss the boat.

The Cobra has a shallower tunnel than the Skaters. maybe that helps it get those #'s.
Eric did ask me about the third throttle handle (which I forgot to send). ???????????
I miss the boat but not the fuel bill. This was the first time I've seen it run. I never video'd it from the shore or let anyone drive it. Very cool!!

That hull came from the Cris cat if you lookat the bottom it gives it away, but the built them out of all foam core to keep'em light so they would fly!! :D

The bottom is more like a shadow cat.

Aren't both the shadow and chirs cats Linder designs?
Simon

The chris cat has a notch in the tunnel and the cobra does not.

how much tab are you going to need to take the porpuse out of it? looks like it was going to town were they more prone to porpuse than other 30 cats?

Steve armstrong's 32 skater Money shot, used to be rique fords Hooters race boat was 1 if not the fastest 32 skater out there and they could only get 116 and change at the kilos in cleveland, I belive it still holds the kilo for triple engine outboard cats with 280's... Thats a fast Cobra...119 !!!

The old Pensoil boat held the pro stock record at 117+ with 280s
Those Cobras were made in NJ and did not have a good reputation when it comes to quality. 119 is real real fast!

I think winter is here. Everyone's speed on their boats are increasing :D . My Skater has went from 101 GPS to 110 BS. :D

I am not saying that the Cobra will run like a Skater but here is a 28 Skater that runs 118 with 2 pro max 300's with Taylor Marine's intakes.

Wow I don't remember the record being that fast. Was that the pro stock record? At the time the 2 motor SS boats were running as fast as the bigger 3 motor boats.
Sorry Eric, don't mean to hijack your thread. I am interested in seeing your results as I also run 2 promax 300s myself

Eric, Member Fishead in Georga has a 30' shadow cat with twin 300pm motors and his boat runs low 90s with 28'' bravo 1 props.

Skatin, bring that talon up to the GRAND SLAM POKER RUN next year. Grand Lake Oklahoma. We need more smaller cats to run. I was the smallest boat with a 24 Skater

That would be great. When do they usually have it? We made the Havasu Run this year and that is it. After that I got so busy I didn't have much time for the boat. Next year will be different I'm already planning for it.

Been away from here for a while.....boat looks great Mr Simon......Streamin did a beautiful job on it......
Just like to comment on a few things.......yes, you need a tunnel tab......the cobras never ran over 100in stock form.........it would porpoise like nuts about 94 to 96.......
When I was in business we put the first tunnel tab on a 30 inboard with #5 speedmaster and a blown 540 900+ hp motor.....it did the trick and it ran 105 or so......
Gabe Sipos's national champ prostocker (triple)would run low 1 teens with a tab.........the cobra is faster than a 32 skater if set up properly.......it is a much smaller boat, shallower tunnel, accelerates like no other I have run....actually 29' 4" I believe...and Gabes boat had 1 2.5 280hp and 2 240hp 2.4's!!!........Put a couple of drag motors on it and a for sure Kilo record breaker......
Recently, Gabe has his out on fresh water lake.........he said it ran to 94...then as he throttle down the tab.....it rocketed to 107 like it was nitros injected.....(more pronounced drag on fresh water).....
As for that 32 skater running 124, I would like to see what sactioning body documented that speed and where........

mj...All these years later we still have a few that knock the construction of a Cobra........in fact, I dont know any that broke apart.....yes, some were made too heavy and were slower than they should be........and I am taking about race boats.........never have heard of a serious problem with a pleasure boat......The Cobra also captured many offshore wins along with a World Championship and National Championships.....racing against 28 and 32 skaters!!!
Shoot, I can name more than a few skaters, eliminators, cris cats, shadows, sutphens ect that broke apart....I guess that all had a quality problem.....
This is what we call the late and so called great Doug Lewis bad mouth of the Cobra.....talk like that hurts the people who own them and makes it tougher for them to sell when it is just heresay......
