I know that this forum is mainly for higher HP boat and motor combos but here goes...

I am looking to re-power my 16' flats boat in Jan/Feb with the new E-TEC motor in either the 115 or 130Hp model. They are about 1k difference in price for the two models.
Question... will I be able to notice the difference between these models (15 HP)? pros and cons please

The block is the same for the 115 and 130Hp motors (v-4 E-TEC). The E-TEC 115/130 advertises 369# in the brochure.

The weight of my hull is advertised at 900#(dry) and the current weight of my 90Hp is 265#. I will be adding 100# to the rear and the boat is rated for a 115.

You will definitely notice the difference but does it worth for 1k is up to you...

cuz of the weight, the extra 100lbs, the 115hp will prob' be about the same
in performance, i think you'll need to move some weight around to keep the CG of the hull the same, so the handling of the hull will be similer, is 15hp worth
a 1000bucks? seems steep,

Does any body know what they changed in the E tec 130 from the 115 to see that extra 15 HP ? Wonder if it has more compression or a higher RPM band ?

Dingie,
I am wondering the same thing you are. I see on the spec sheet for the motors that they are the same block configuartion and the rec rpm range for the 115 is 4500-5500, the rec rpm range for the 130 is 5000-6000.
Isn't that similiar to the Yamaha carb 2 stroke motors in that HP, one is rated at 4500-5500 and the other 5000-6000? On the carb motors it could be the carb size or tuner possibly.
Can I get the EMM reprogrammed on the 115 E-TEC to be a 130 or maybe a programmer or chip like on the diesel trucks? yea baby!!

1k does seem a bit high. You have to remember though that the rpm rating you see are due to achieving your emissions rating and can be run higher.

the RPM range is only so much above the RECOMENDED range due to Rev limiters... so the 115 may only see 5700-6000 where the 130 might see up to 6300 or so.. (dunno exact RPM ) so that is one thing to consider... also see if dealer will work with ya on getting the 130 I would say a diff of 3-400 is resonable for the HP difference EVEN IF they are identical engines.. but 1K is a little high IMO see what they will do for ya.. BE ADVISED that some dealers wont hang the engine if it is over the HP rating of a hull under 20' but since they weigh the same you may have a way arround that problem...

Hello...e-tec ers.

Listen I happen to have an evinrude dealership, for 17 years, and have been looking forward to the new small block...158 cube e-tecs, since last summer.

First they were due in october, then, november, and now maybe january, or february

I had a 200 small block, demo on order, and was going to pull a stunt, at the fort lauderdale boat show

I was going to...RUDE MY RIDE, you know like the tv shows.

I have a 20' allison river racer, a 1992 year hull, that i raced at the drags, at moore haven, lake alfred, lake butler, and a few other places, for a couple years.

I have had a 115 cross flow, a 140 looper, and a couple different 200s on the ally, and thought a good P.R. gimmick for evinrude, would be to pull the old fingerport 200 limited edition, off and put a new e-tec on the boat at the show

DAYAAMN, no small block e-tecs, for a few more months.

I have ridden in several boats with the small block, back in july, at the dealer meeting, and they ran ..strong.

Now there will be NO 130 for the year of 2006,, i'M SURE I'M RIGHT ON THIS BECAUSE THEY CHANGED MY ORDER,AND DROPPED THE 130

A COUPLE OF REVOLUTIONARY, IDEAS WILL BE ON THE 130...WHENEVER, AND THE 200 SMALL BLOCK IF THEY COME OUT AS SHOWN, IN THE SUMMER.

There will be a valve in the exhaust system to change the exhaust tuning, for more tourque at low speeds for hole shot, and then open up for top end rpm.

The engineer said it won't carbon up, heck there is soot, not carbon, on etecs and I wanted this 200...real BAD..

But not for now, and My allison is gonna get a small block, when they come out.....i hope.

There is confusion over evinrude models, now the H.O. designates big block 200 cube motors, and they offer a 25 inch motor with nosecone....as well as the 20 inch versions.

So we all have to wait for the small blocks, for a while, and see what turns out,

Even though I have one of each ordered, no 130s, and no small blocks for a couple months..

you think that new 200 small block, will run???

I ..DO,....and I am looking forward to.....the ..rude.

NEXT OPPORTUNITY.....????

does anybody have information about ..Mount dora boat festival. in ....march??...
not sure, on the dates and weekend.

last year, there was a 20 foot allison, with TWO v-6..TWISTERS, and thay laid out at 45 degree angles, and the props just about touched,

Thats ..crazy, and ...at mount dora..... i want to go this year..TOOO!!

hoping to , rude my way around, up there

You GOTTA go to the "downloads" page and play "the commercial you WON'T see on TV" It's funny as hell.

You can read all about them on this website or www.evinrude.com
Don't confuse the ETEC with the Evinrude DFI motors... They are two different animals.

Here is an oversimplified summary on the Evinrude ETEC offerings.

The 40/50/60 Etecs are inline 2-cyl's... Basically the same motor with different tuning parameters.

The 75/90 Etecs are inline 3-cyl's... Basically the same motor with, blah, blah

All the above motors are currently in production and for sale at a dealership.

The 115/130 Etec is a V4 60degree powerhead. The 115 is rescheduled to go into production at the end of February 2006 and will be a 2007 model year engine.

The 130 production's been postponed indefinitely to help ease the backlog of other motors that are already on order.

The 150/175/200 60degree "smallblock" motors are due to start shipping at any time now. The H.O. designates the US Flag graphics and a "Lightning" (CLE) gearcase. Not really a big demand for a 25" lower with a highspeed gearcase so it's not necessarily in the literature, but you can order it.

The 200/225/250 90degree "bigblock" motors have been in production for over a year now. Same deal on the H.O. designation.

Is there a backlog because of demand, or because BRP has production problems?

Not that I would spend 7K on my bayliner, but I do wonder how the 90hp etec would stand up to my old chryco force 85hp. 5 gallons don't last long in there.

Last year on one of the bass fishing boards a fellow gave a very in depth comparison. He had a deep V aluminum Walleye boat (17' ?) and went from a 90 hp Johnson 60 degree V-4 to a brand new 90 ETEC. I thought he would loose out on top end and hole shot but according to him he actually gained a couple of mph on top end. Like I said it was very interesting and in depth. I still find it hard to believe myself but who knows. It did VERY well in the 90 hp "round-up" in B&WB. It won top end honors in that one too.
