The 2005 Toys For Tots Tour
It is a gain time to get out that boat to do some good things. This year the 2005 Toys for Tots tour will take place on December 3. This unique event is the worlds only boating Toys for Tots Tour. It is tremendous fun and puts some nice gifts in the hands of some deserving children. .
This event will take place on Dec 3rd at Hickory Point Park in Lake County. Hickory Point Park is on H-way 19 on the shore of lake Harris between Howey in the Hills and Tavares. There will be a pre-tour briefing at 12:00 noon. We encourage all participants to meet early in the day to enjoy lunch and a pretour gathering at the Hickory Point Pavilions. Bring a covered dish a good appetite an unwrapped toy or gift and that great attitude with a big smile.
The in water tour will start at 1:00 pm [13:00 hours]. Previous to 1:00pm we would like the participating boats to be all gathered at one side of the H-way 19 bridge and exactly 1;00 o’clock a signal will be given showing that is 1:00 o’clock and the tour is to start. Please note that this is not a race or a mad speed dash. There are no set speed limits on these lakes and all participants should use the utmost care to assure that event is safe for all concerned. The tour will proceed across lake Harris through the Dead River Canal and the across Lake Eustis to the City Dock right in Down Town Eustis. There you will be received by some sensational smiling faces that will collect your gifts and impart festive greeting to you and your crew. This event will be officiated by the U.S. Marines as this an official U.S. Marine Toys for Tots event.
We would like to extend this invitation to you and all you know to enjoy this sensational event. For more information or suggestions or ideas please contact Rus Matos 5327 Goddard Ave Orl. Fla. 32810 E-mail

The weather is going to be great. It is going to be cool and sunny with no or little breeze.... the water is going to be flat with only enough ripple to make your tunnel boat go the fastest and smoothest... Please pass on the news of this event to all you know.... I would love to see this event to be a big toy bash for great kids from great guys....

Is there any sort of schedule set up as to host hotel, is the ride saturday or sunday, any thing happening friday night, etc. It seems i need all the info you have.

HEY PARKER , You know Lake Harris has a shore line . If you ran around the lake instead of just making a beeline to the Dead River , it would be a real long trip . How about a poker type run ? Not nessesarly cards but something to do on the way around . R.O.A.R ,( Danny ) use to put on a treasure hunt on this chain . That was a BLAST . I'm sure some of you all were around for some of those . Anyway just thought I'd through it out there . Russ was asking for ideas . Rich Martin 018 :D

there is over 40 miles of shore line on lake harris .and the are plenty of places to run in the nearly dozen lakes conected . It would be fun to tour after the toy event to other lakes. throw in some ideas out.... the Eustis race course is right there... dose any one know the rout to lake griffin? .................Thanks for the enthusiasm and intrest...next year we might tour from Porkys in welatka to Palatka ... I realize the tour rout is short ... but that leaves later ride options open to you all.... the swanee is an option but the limited public receival sites are of consideration . also the logistics for the Marines can be of concideration... thanks again
We were one of the first one's there last year. We were running around for about and hour waiting for the start. When it was time to start, one engine kept backfiring and dieing when trying to get on a plane. Found out later, I had blow a power valve. Hopefully, we will have better luck this year. :)

HAINES CREEK is where you have to pass through to get to Lake Griffin . You must go through a lock on the creek ,so i'm not sure how many boats can get by at once . Rich Martin 018

no head count yet , but you are #1... thanks for your partisipation. I'm with Rich. Weather permitting, there is plenty of shoreline to run to make the trip worth while. You don't need to make a beeline to Gators. Anyone bringing a video camera? I think S&F needs a new video to download. Outboard overkill and the like are still fun to watch, but I really think it needs something a little newer:D

Fish, I'm hoping to have the newest addition to the fleet ready. They have fixed the hatch where there was a scoop that made the entire hatch droop to the middle. They are pulling the tranny Monday, and I'll drop it off for a rebuild on Tuesday.

I'd like to see you name a facility with enough dockage and dining space to accomodate this event on the Suwannee. There isn't one.

PARKER , Minx makes a good point . About the only drop off point that could be useable on the Swanie would be Hart Springs , and then there is still no dinning . It would be picnicing or if you could have someone there grilling before hand . For this year it way to late to be making location changes . But Russ has always been open for sujestions . Maybe next year if we can all start helping plan a little earlyer Russ could arrange for another location . Gotta love a jet boat! I cant make a 48 mile run without more fuel. Any one know if there are any fuel stops along the way?
RNM018
11-22-2005, 12:35 PM
There's Fuel 1/2 way , I think there may even be two fuel docks in the Dead River . One at Vick's and I know theres one at the bridge . Rich Martin 018
Another reason the Suwannee wouldn't work it that nobody lives up there. My girlfriend was born and raised in Old Town, and I know the area well. With the run at the Harris Chain, it can pull boats from Orlando, Daytona, Leesburg, Jacksonville, and the Tampa Bay region with no more than a couple hours drive. I really can't think of a better place to hold a good sized boating event in the state.
I just picked up the tranny from my 22, and dropped it off to be rebuilt, I'm hoping to have it ready for the TFT run. :)

11-22-2005, 02:16 PM
I had to split the map in two because of the file size restrictions. I have a single map of the whole area if anyone is interested. I think it is like 300K in size in PDF format.
I must admit, the Suwannee would be a beautiful run. Unfortunately it is a 3+ hour drive for me. I dont' have that kind of cash for the fuel, both truck and boat, as well as a hotel room for the weekend. Others are right, the facilities at both the start and finish are cabable of accomodating the TFT runs. The only bad thing is that we are at the mercy of mother nature. Russ, you still got a handle on that part? You promised some good weather;)
There is fuel available on the Dead River.

I usauly drop about $30.oo to $40.oo bucks on coloring and art suplies, but I've done this for a couple of years now . Not having any children of my own kind of leaves me in the dark at this TOY SHOPPING SUBJECT . Just wondering what you all are thinking about . Rich Martin 018

My youngest is 18, so I haven't been in a Toys r Us in ages, but I figured I would go look for toy boats--solid stuff, not battery powered R/C. Figured boats would be fitting.

Got the toys at Wally World Sunday Night. They didn't have much on the clearance rack, but the Hot Wheels, games, footballs and such were very reasonable. The weather is looking pretty good after this rain stuff blows through:)

'This event will take place on Dec 3rd at Hickory Point Park in Lake County. Hickory Point Park is on H-way 19 on the shore of lake Harris between Howey in the Hills and Tavares.'
I guess this is some were in FLa?
I have no idea were Hickory Point park is? ( I live 10 miles from Hickory NC)
We also have a HWY 19, But no Hickory Point Park and we have the Taverns in the Hills, but not Hills in the Taverns.
And yes, I'm being a butt hole! You have to understand, we all don't know where you are talking about. We live all over the county!

You are so correct about the late date for me! I did have other plans for that date with my old 66 mustang, but seeing how it found a new home the date is now open. And I am famos for last min. planing. But the good news is, I'm only 7 hours away! I have a Bullet boat, and see thier is a lot of big boats! Is this big water? Salt water?
Hell I just checked the weather, it's gona be nice!( see my little brain is going 75mph)
