Yeah, get out your checkbook. Better yet, you're gonna have to hit up the home-equity line of credit. Could'nt you find something closer? What did you get now?

Hey Mike, I just bought a 25 Motion in Fla. Bought a one way ticket, rented a 15' chevy box truck and 29 hours later I was back in PA. Ok, it might take a little longer but I stopped at Sears, 2 spares, a jack, grease gun and 4 new bearing buddies. Good Luck!

Alot of the boat sale websites have a link to marine transporting. It works like this, click this link http://www.boats.com/boat-transport/index.jsp or any link from those sites and fill out the form with your boat type and location details and then it goes out into forum listing for truckers and they (several transporters) will contact you with a price quote. you can wheel and deal these guys cause there all competeing. make sure when you get the quote that it includes all permits, tolls, fuel, etc.

I don't know what size boat. We rented a Trailblazer from Avis (had one reserved at Budget, none when we got there) to pull our 21 Eliminator from Indiana to Florida. They all come with 2" receivers. Brought our own drawbar and ball, and the guy we bought the boat from put us onto a nifty little pigtail from the auto parts store that converts the Trailblazer big (6 or 8 pin) light plug to a flat four that fit the trailer. Of course, goes against everything Avis tells you, but if your own insurance is good then you can't get in too much trouble. Just hafta drag that boat 1/4 mile down the Interstate if the truck breaks down.

I might be picking up a boat in NC. What size is the boat you need to transport? Where in Cali. is it? Larry

I did the Chv trailblazer method and it went smooth as you could ask for. The key is planning and lots of it.

I UPS'd my own hitch and ball + trailblazer wiring adapter to the guys house in Indiana. I reserved a Trailblazer at the airport in Chicago from ALAMO (they were by far the cheapest) and the trick is this - There are Trailblazers WITHOUT the tow package, but not very many. I reserved the rental for 1 day, at the local rental rate of about $60 a day. That way, if it didn't have the hitch I needed, I wasn't commited to something that wouldn't work. You can't just go to the local autoparts stores and buy a hitch for those, it's the whole bumper assembly. When I saw that the rig I rented was going to work, I called then later that day and changed my rental to a 1-way rental from Chicago to Seattle at a 1-way rate of $150 a day.

33 hours later I pulled up to The Alamo desk at Seattle-Tacoma Airport and returned it. Nobody was the wiser.

It cost me about $500 for the rental, and $500 in fuel. I had a buddy go with me to share the driving, and I bought his 1-way plane ticket, so that was another $130 or so.

All told I got quoted around $3000 - $4000 to ship it by truck, and I did it using 1 sick day and a weekend from work, and $1200 total.

Not bad. And what an adventure. The guy I bought my Euro from sure know's how to party... But that's another story....

What happens in Indiana stays in Indiana;)

Call Mike Parker in Atlanta GA, he's in the boat hauling business
770-597-8522. He's a boater himself and will give you great personal service, he has a couple of Dodge duallys and large trailers and hauls boats all over the US. He brought one from Seattle to Atlanta for me and was very reasonable.

If you rent a truck, be careful about one-way vs. round trip. Vehicles which are owned by the local franchise can't be taken one-way. They tried to swap my Trailblazer for a Rendesvous since I wanted to go one-way. The Rendesvous is an ugly POS without a trailer hitch.

So if you're flying and making a reservation be sure to let them know its one-way. There is no obligation, you can always just cancel when you're there if the truck isn't right.
