I am looking to add some setback to my Vegas XT. Currently I have a Bobs 5"-6" Hydraulic jackplate. I am thinking of just buying Bobs 2" spacers, and adding them to my current jackplate. I am getting a new motor, so I will have a 200 - 225 merc.

You will see a performance improvement with the extra 2". For 8" or more, some PROPERLY installed knee braces wouls be highly recommended. The transom needs to be 100% solid. The XT's are prone to developing cracks in the corners of the splashwell. I have one of the few that hasn't opened up a big crack there. Put a thick SS plate on the front of the splashwell and inside of the transom and bolt the jackplate through it with the correct fasteners.

Mine has a L&S jackplate with 1" spacers from Rickracers (check my rhyme) for about 5" or 6" total setback. The 1" spacers halped mine run properly with less positive trim.

pyro right on. i use a para lift which has a 10"max set back that move to 8 at wot. if you still moreing in the salt water you may want to look for a para lift. they have about the highest lift and you can get that motor totally out. likewise i put a 3" alumium channel across the bottom motor bolts that goes side to side and pinned on the ends. attached is the brace on my sons voyager. its bolted thru the transom and the tye down eye are also attached to it. the outside of the tramsom has a 3/16 plate of alumium under the motor

Bob,
Did you build your brace? Do you have the specs on it? Mine has been reinforced on the exterior, inside the well, and across the top of the transome. There hasn't been anything done to the inside.

i rebuilt the boat last fall form inspectorlance. i added 4 extra ribs and doubled the floor under the motor well. the frame was home built and fitted to the transom. the knee braces are a little too wide but do ride on the extra ribs. [gas tank needed to fit between the ribs.
