Well I hate to say it, but with summer winding down for us northern folk, its gonna be time to smell a different kind of two stroke :) I decided this year I had to get back into it, and was suprised at how the prices have come down some. So I ended up with a 96' Formula 3 600 triple. Heated bars and thumb warmers, and a plug in for heated helmet. For the $ I had to spend, I thought I was gonna end up with a 440 or something, but I guess buying early helps :D Had a crack by the hinges, So I've started to clean it up a little. That was the only thing wrong with it.

I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time, when my buddy got a hard on for a newer 2cyl MXZ 800 H.O. a few years ago.

It's a 1997 Mach1 700cc, that's been modded bit by bit over the years. His best friend bought a newer Formula III 700 the same year, so they were always tinkering to go faster than each other. My gain once again. (already set up) :D

As it turns out with me (a much lighter rider) on my Mach, I'm faster than him on his new MXZ. You should have seen the look of disappointment the first time he topped out, and I sailed right past. Priceless... :D  :D

He now regrets trading his old sled for the MXZ, but I let him take the old girl for a rip whenever we're running together.

Here's a few pics.

vwfreak,

*I keep it in my front hall at home in T.O. where it's under constant guard by my two dogs* Why? Because I can I guess... :D The joys of loft living.*

There talking snow in the "UP" of MI tonight and its still September!

I LOVE Longtracks! Thier like the choppers of snowmobiles. I have a 2005 162" 900EFI King Cat that's stock other than I replaced the Attack20 track and added SledJunkys drop brackets...oh it will also be sporting a BOSS light weight seat this winter and a set of Fox Floats up front. It will stay stock as I'm not known for modifying anything.

The back up sled is better know as the RAT CAT. Its also bone stock....well I think the gas tank is stock? LOL! I bought it as a beat up 2001 SnoPro open mod snowcross racer. I turned it into a 144" longtracker with a Black Magic 711ccEFI, Jet Hot coated twin pipes, and a 30hp shot BOSS NOSS system.

Freak where do you sled? Were gonna have a hut out on Cook's bay. BTW mines gonna stay pretty much stock. Maybe just some pipes or something. I don't care if I gotta mess with the boat on the lake, but playing with stuff on the ice at -40 sucks. No puddle jumping either, but of course I say that now :p Anyone have experience with the heated visors? I picked one up, and my dad wants to now if its worth the extra $ to have it. This sled with be plenty fast for me, last sled I drove was an old fan yamaha 440, and I was like 12 :D

I've been sledding with buddies in Haliburton Forest and surrounding area, and the Muskoka's too.
This year I plan to take it to the Kawartha's, possibly keeping it up there for part of the season. A few cottage buddies have sleds, and I think I talked a few more into picking up the hobby too.

Where's Cook's Bay? :o (Balsam Lake?) No huts are allowed on Sturgeon Lake from what I understand. I just went ice fishing for the first time last February. (I'd rather be riding)

Yup! You're gonna notice a little more speed on this one for sure!
Just don't get it stuck on a solo run. These things are pretty much pigs to try to yank out of a drift by yourself.

*I've got a black & red Skidoo snow guard/flap that looks like new. Doesn't match my sled, but basicly brand new. You want it, it's yours. Mine's yellow to match the rest of my sled. Let me know if you want it.*

Cook's Bay is on Lake Simcoe. I'll be in Dorset a fari bit too. One nice thing about living where I am is that Simcoes about a 10 min ride away, and you can easily get to Balsam and stuff in 1 hour. BTW your right about weight. I through my back out (at my age!) trying to be a hero and lift it off the trailer :D

Here's two toy sleds I bought last year. I knew they'd pretty much suck out of the box, but I had some plans for them. ;)

The first one received new bearings, a new radio, electronic speed controller, and a different larger motor from an old r/c truck. With an 8.4 volt battery it'd do about 15mph. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

So... since our first dusting of snow I've been building a nitro conversion for sled number 2. An old Traxxas nitro car became a donor for this project. I needed its two speed centrifugal transmission, and its braking assembly.

I fired it up the other night to be sure everthing works, belt spins freely, etc... so far so good. We just need some snow so I have some idea how fast this thing really is. Here's a few pics for now.

vwfreak...you and me gotta talk!! I need to do that..I'm big into R/C and have been wanting a sled for ever. What sled is that (like brand name or anything)? Do you have any info on the conversion?

There used to be a weedwacker powered sled..like an old F2000 skidoo chassis but I haven't seen one anywhere in years.

vwfreak
12-06-2005, 07:16 PM
The sled's from a company called New Bright Toys.
They're the one's who make those huge 1:6 r/c cars you see at Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, etc...

Nitro Elements / Art Attck made some sleds (both electric & nitro) a few years ago, but the company went belly up. You can still find the odd kit on E-bay, but good luck finding any parts later on.

By building my sled off the Nitro 4-tec's chasis, replacement belts and hop up parts are readily available at my local hobby shop.

No plan information is available that I'm aware of, this was just a nutty idea that I just had to try. :D

Broke off the choke lever on my Polaris for the THIRD time. Everyone breaks these, the dealers stock tons of them. I got sick of breaking them, so I got another $5 choke lever kit, and copied and fabricated my own cable-pull-piece out of brass. I installed it last night, then dropped the pin that holds the lever on in the snow  I'll try again tomorrow. We have 9" on the ground, it's time to go riding...

My dad just got a new sled! Well its a 2002 :) Well I pulled the head on his sled, found metal. So we took it too a dealer just to get it checked out. He was pretty cool, and said he would tear into it for free, since it was a 96' and my dad didn't wanna put a lot of money into it. Well the crank bearing exploded, wiping out the crank, and the debris wiped the cylinder out pretty bad. So they gave my dad $1600 for it on a trade in for this. He was pretty damn happy because he only paid $1200 when he bought it. Hes pretty stoked, and I can't wait to try it out :D

This sled was a real sleeper. I would haul it around looking for speed runs, here in minnesota and Wisconsin. I would throw it in the back of my pick-up, along with tools and fuel; in later years I added a crazy driver, and take off for the weekend looking for races.
The sled was a full bodied, full mod. lots of tricks; to many to mention here. The highlites are motor (975C.C.) from Rich Felegy, and chassis from Anderson Chassis service.
Check out the times; It ran 141+m.p.h., in 1000 ft, in a sanctioned event.
This picture is at Winterfest, in Hayward Wisconsin, where we were challenged by Tommy Zeller, the NSSR Pro-Stock World Champion. Your guess as to what happened!!

I've been tinkering with this thing recently, and put a larger 2.5TRX engine in it, a heavy duty MIP clutch, and a larger diameter drive gear.

I got a little bored yesterday & decided to fasten my digital camera to the front end. I'm still breaking in the new motor so this only shows first gear (there's two ;) ) After a few more tanks of fuel I'll set up 2nd gear & start to lean the carb out too.

All said & done this should be good for about 50mph with ideal snow conditions. The sled is 1/6th scale so that's approx. 300 scale mph  .

Will post some video from a proper handheld camera in the future once it's all dialed in.

Its a full out drag race sled, comparied to some drag sleds thats not that fast the fastest drag sled was a ski doo and i belive it ran like 180mph or something like that so 147mph isnt a extreamly fast race sled (hell stock thunder cats run almost 130mph)

Are talking radar runs or drag racing? I think modzilla ran 192.2 last year in North Bay which is 2000'. I guess I should have asked the distance that runs 147mph before jumping to conclusions (my appologies) and it sounded more like a trail sled. Where do you run it? We run the north bay (NBSSR) once or twice per year but we're more focused on drag racing.
