Eric Simon posted these pics a while back (and I have seen similar ones from US1):

Could you put one in a regualr street VW?
Not necessarly a turbo, in fact the sound of a dry V6 would have everyone scratching their head. Even 200 hp in a bug would be a blast and it sure would look cool sitting in the backseat
How possible is it? How would you cool it?

That would be a brutally fast ride for sure. The wheelie bars would be a dead giveaway though, no chance for sleeper with a setup like that. :D

radiator to cool it.....
Seen a guy campaign a sprint car with a Rude in it. Ran good, sounded good, had that funky blue smoke coming off every turn. Ran middle of the pack.

I have a cool video clip on my computer of just such a set up. The guy does a run on its hind wheels, mostly, as the front was in the sky. Sounded insaine too. I cannot remember where I downloaded it from, and I don't know how to post it, but I'm with you on that set up (not surprizingly).

I sure would be interesting to see what people think at the gas station when you are mixing oil as you fill up :D
Wheelie bars  , that was one of the reasons I was thinking of putting the V-6 in the back seat instead of hanging it off the back like a normal bug.
The sound would just be too cool, all of the dorks with their fart cans would be totally confused when they heard it (from behind of course)
Regarding the cooling, I realized you would need a radiator, but I wondered how big of one you would need as the lake is a pretty large heat sink :)

John Marles has one in a Baja Bug that he has set up for long distance off road racing. If it will survive that, I think it could survive in a street car.
Hey John, post some of the pics!!!

I would think getting a clutch / flywheel to work would be tricky. Maybe Eric will chime in here and answer these questions.

How about an A1 Rabbit chassis with not just one Turbo VR6 conversion, but a second one mounted in the rear too. Its been done by a few guys. NUTZ!!!
I've seen a few of these done in both the A1, and A2 chasis at a few VW meets. Not much wheel slip, just launches like it was shot from a gun. :D

Imagine turning a corner at full throttle  :D

Lot's of trial & error and custom fabrication from the guys I've spoken to.
The shift assembly was all one off hand fabricated stuff. No mail order bolt on stuff here.
I think I have some pretty good 35mm pics I took of a nice A2 conversion laying around somewhere. I'll try to find them & scan them later this weekend for you.
The VW's A2 & A3 subframes drop out with about 6 to 8 major bolts, with everything still attached. (engine, tranny, front suspension, etc...)
These cars are very "swap friendly". Lot's of VR6 A2's out there now. They're almost as easy to swap stuff on as the old Fox body LEGO Mustangs of '79-'92. :D
Some guys are now just doing the RWD conversion on these VW's for drifting too.

Here's a link to a video clip of the "Dubsport" Twin engine VR6 turbos running the 1/4. Not the best quality clip, but you get the idea.

I still have the adapter. I used an aluminum corvair flywheel with a 4 puck disc.

So did you use a VW or Corvair transmission?
What did you do for cooling?
With the powerhead layingdown like that did you have some sort of mount for the top of the block?
With your turbo setup what kind of fuel induction did you use and how did you control it?
BTW VW freak, great video :D

I used a vw trans.I had a radiator with an electric water pump and fans.I had a motor mount that bolted to the upper motor mount bolts. The fuel injection was a 2.4 bridgeport efi setup that I modified.I also had extra injectors that were on pressure switches to come on with boost, and the fuel pressure was also regulated with boost.

There used to be a SCCA class that the 100" tower of powers fit into perfectly. There were several guys running laid down inlines. This was about 20 years ago. An EFI would solve all the carb problems the dealt with. Easiest fix was lay engin on exhaust cover side and rotate carbs 90 degrees and fab linkage. With the EFI, mounting the engine cylinders down would solve everything except the clutch which wouldn't be hard.
