Just got the Cobra loaded with 3.0L goodies and off on the Alaska State Ferry. It's heading to Seattle where Eric Simon (www.simonmotorsports.com) will drive 20 hrs to get it.
It will be a test hull for some radical 3.0L's he's building. Can't wait to see what he can get out of it.

So you're selling again??!! I must have missed the 'reasons' and 'what you're doing next' threads.
So what's next?? ( I happen to be selling again too, but probably not one you'd want to drive from SW Michigan to Sitka again :D )

Those Ferrys come to Bellingham, WA (my home town) not Seattle (about 1 1/2 hrs north), When is it scheduled to arrive? I would love to see the famous boat. Maybe Eric would like to go to one of the better local places for dinner or perhaps be interested in a home cooked meal after all of that driving. Ron have him get a hold of me [email protected]

Maybe I will just e-mail him and see if he is interested, hope I get a chance to see it :D

I like the gas milage better in the truck!!

Blkmtrfan, It's going into Seattle.
The ferry would have been $2100.00 to Bellingham. I ferried it to Wrangell for $361.00 then put it on Boyer Barge lines (They go between Seattle and Wrangell) That fee is $1100.00. I saved $639.00 going this way. If I had shipped it on a barge that goes from Sitka to Seattle (not boyer), it would have been $4900.00!!!!!!!!!!

I sold my 1999 V-10 F-250 4x4 4 door short bed last week for well over blue book. It got 5 mpg in my stop and go town. I was looking for a 4 door ford with a V-8 that would get better milage. Eric offered me his Bitchin shop truck for the Cobra and I would keep the $$ from my truck sale.
His truck and the Cobra (at his price) were valued the same.(I may have gotten a tad better deal though) :o)
His truck has 37" tires with 513 gears. I'll have a "platinum Edition" leather interior newer Ford that gets double the milage of my old rig. And to top it off,...his lovely (pregnant) wife offered to drive it to Seattle when they come up to get the boat. (Thanks Sandy!!!) Eric will be in the "Toterhome" (Motorhome with a 5th wheel bed) and their 2 1/2 (ish) yr old daughter will be bouncing back and forth between the two rigs for 20 hours!!!

The truck is over the 78" height for the standard $900.00 transport fee. What very few haulers that would take it wanted $1300.00 and $1800.00.

I still have three boats and am going to see where the fuel prices go this winter before dumping a ton of money into another speed boat.

What's next for me???

I've gone from a Viking, to a Virage, to a 21' Skater, to a 30' Cobra. The Cobra was the cadillac of all the boats with the biggest WOW factor. I'm not rich enough to keep a twin engine boat so maybe a STV or something for a nice day blast with a Simonmotorsport 225 ProMax. We'll see..................

Boy freight sure is funny, sounds like you sure have it figured out though. So you must have had to ride the ferry to Wrangell and take the boat over to the barge then right?

Sounds like a similar setup to a certian Virage ;)

I have friends in Wrangell that took it off. They had to parade it through town and stop at the Merc dealer which is right on main street. It got tons of attention. Wrangell is a big merc town and has a population of about 2500. They had never seen a 300 ProMax before.

Brad,.......you don't live far enough away. :o

Remember that pro comp on E-Bay that was in Washington a year ago? It was light blue. It went for a rediculious price (without trailer) under $3K if I remember. It's in Canada now.

Eric drove 20 hours and is in Olympia, Wa right now. He'll drive up to Seattle this morning, drop the truck off at one barge company, then go a couple blocks down the road to Boyer Barge and get the Cobra. Any members in Washington / Oregon may see it heading down I-5 sometime today behind his Toterhome. Cool ride!!

Eric must really want the Cobra to feed diesel to that monster for 4K+ miles.

Other than the race boat, he's been boatless all summer. It's 1400 miles each way. The timing wasn't the best as he has motors to build but you know how we all get when we smell a new boat.
Just got off the phone with him, He's heading up in a hour to get the boat.

What better to showcase twin or triple motors you've built?? :D

Hey Ron, ready to come buy my wife's Four Winns?

Yea - for sure.

I am headed for Atlanta, Ga. in the AM to pick up a GE T58 turbine for the Eagle. Having to add an extra fuel tank in the bed just to be sure I make it. Cannot believe I am going at $3 + per gallon but - you know how we all get when we smell a new boat.

I will be in San Diago next Feb. I hope Eric has it going by then. Cannot wait to see it.

Got a call from S&F member "Banjo" (21' Skater 300x). Said he saw the back of my old boat in a driveway near him in Olympia, Wa. Gave him Eric's #. Looks like they are going to hook up in the morning before he heads out. Small world huh? Exit 111 on I-5.

This is going to be a slow winter compared to last winter. I just bought this bad ass Mustang in CT and will be playing with it. I'll be replacing the 125 Merc on the SeaRay with a EFI 2.5L 150, and putting another 200 on the Bayliner. Emily will let me use her 12' Cat / 90 Yamaha for those speed runs.
I want to see what the fuel prices do by spring before I dump a ton of cash on another boat.

Was on the phone with Eric at 11 pm lastnight. He said everything was going fine and he was coming up on SanFrancisco. I called late this morning and he was at a truck stop changing out wheel bearings and shackles. Apparently one of the wheel bearings let go and the wheel almost fell off @ 1 am. The roads were rough enough to wear the leaf spring bolts through the shackles. He hit the parts store this morning and got all the parts to fix the trailer. The two winch straps broke and one of the two sets of stern tie downs broke and the boat slid back 3'.
He just got back on the road and has his fingers crossed for the final 8 hrs.

Blaaa Haaa Haaaa Good one nick. I Almost ordered a pizza and had it delivered to the parking lot where he was working on it. :D I called him several times to see how things were going. Unlike Todd Lamb, I won't run and hide. :o

Just got off the phone and he's 2 hours away from home and all is going good.
BTW, the tire shreaded AFTER Eric pulled a rock out of a leak in the tire and plugged it. He was tired of filling it every two hours. We're thinking the plug let go and it went flat in a hurry.
Eric got pictures and will post here.
Oh yea,... I saw pictures of the inside of his toterhome. Good lord, the drivers seat looks like a plush recliner. His wife, daughter, and the girl that drove the pick up to Seattle are in the living room watching movies and satallite tv. He had meat loaf and mashed potatoes for dinner. You know, on BOTH of my trips, I suffered, driving for 62 hours in a Jeep CJ-5 and 52 hours in a Mitsubichi Montero. No TV, mashed potatoes and gravy, etc just a pack of beef jerkey and a slim jim at the gas station.

Thanks Godspeed. Ever since Eric contacted me when I was wanting to trade a problem child 260 for a ProMax, we've been friends. He's a straight shooter and does what he says. We've done a bunch of horse trading over the past few years with no problems,....probably because we're both lay'd back.

John,
I would say housing is the worst here. There just isn't much land to build on. Rentals are $750 for a 1 bedroom, $850 2 bedroom, $950-$1200 3 bedroom.
A 3 bdrm ranch style home is $235k. On the lighter side, utilities (elect, water, sewer, & garbage) for me is $150 / month in the summer and $190 winter. The water, sewer, and garbage are flat rate which is around $70.00 total for all three per month. Sitka has a 6 mil rate which is insane. I pay around $700.00 / year property tax for a $300k home . Groceries are 10% more than you are probably used to. Wages are pretty good. A carpenter (laborer) makes $20+ per hour and all the contractors are buisy.

If you are into boating / cruising, Sitka is the absolute BEST. If you think I'm bias, look up maps around ANY town anywhere on any coast in the US. There are thousands of miles of protected waterways with endless bays and nooks to explore, beachcombe, hunt, fish, crab, shrimp, camp, etc. If you are into the outdoors, Sitka is a paradise . UUUhhhhmmm,.........It does rain a tad though.
If you are ever in the area, let me know. I'd be glad to take you out and show you around. This is why a "Practical" boat is important. You can see my trusty ole "Bayliner" in the garage. This is like the mini van you would have in the lower 48.
