View Full Version : Trim Gauge issue
Trim gauge on my Mercury 3.0L is playing games. Power off gauge reads down. Power on gauge gets pinned to top (up). It doesnt matter where you set the trim. Any ideas?

Trim sender is shorted to ground.
Disconnect the brown / white tracer wire under the cowl from the engine harness with the ignition 'on'. The gauge should drop from full up to down. Replace the sender.

check this wiring diagram
http://www.tflx.com/pdf/trimsy%7E1.pdf
an open circut should equal a hi resistance or a full up reading on the guage .
a short is equal to zero or low resistance which should have a down reading.
disconect the brown/white tracer wire and connect an ohm meter between it and ground. run the trim full range and check the reading against the pdf file.
Ok seems that wires are cut. Where is the trim sender normally mounted. engine is a 225 3.0L. Also where is the engine Temp. sender located. Thanks guys, new to the O/B thing.
