was at bass pro today and picked up a couple of gallons of the penzoil synthetic 2 stroke oil.$19.99 a gal,less than i was paying for the hi po merc stuff.anyhow i was going to get some gear dope but the only penzoil stuff they had said "hi performance" on the label,but nothing about whether it was the synthetic or not.is this the stuff your using or do i need to have them order some?the $5 an hour desk jockey had no clue what i was talking about.thanks!

Yea if its the Penzoil thats what I suggest for everyday boating. For racing I suggest something else.

Check88 - Pennzoil makes a 100% synthetic lower unit gear lube. Red "100% Synthetic" label on the front just like the oil. Says SAE 75-90 and API GL-5 so it is the medium weight stuff. Quarts are stock #56573 and are about $7.50 at WalMart which is the only place I've seen it. This is not the thin drag race stuff.

There is also an automotive product that is identical. It used to be called Quakerstate Synchron and have the same specs as the marine gear lube. I do not know what they call it now, but it may be easier to get and potentially cheaper.
