Any good rumors out there about a Toyota diesel truck that will be able to compete with the American 3/4 tons? I heard somewhere (totally a rumor, just wondering if anyone else had heard it) that for '07 they were bringing out a diesel w/ 10K+ towing and upper 20's MPG.

I wouldnt doubt it. But i would still buy Dodge.

There was some talk about that on the Tundra Solutions board, but I was not willing to pay a fee just to access the board.

I think there would be a good market out there for a smaller diesel engine/truck combo, which would still give us say full size gas towing capability, but much better mileage.

old post but gotta say.. they had a diesel in the orginal toyota truck needed a turbocharger but would get 35+ mpg and was fairly reliable.. if they do release one with 250+ hp and descent torque to tow.. it might give me the motivation to get a new truck something smaller

Which I LOVED to drive, and picked up a new Tundra Crew TRD 4X4 on a cheap lease deal, because I'm pretty sure in 3 years there's going to be a couple of trucks out there that'll get mid-20's or higher mpg while still being able to tow 5,000+ pounds.

The future of trucks is just around the corner! Honda almost got there with the Ridgeline, but not quite. I drove that cross-over truck the other day, and it drives fantastic compared to the last 6 trucks I've owned. But it's not quite enough truck with not quite enough gas mileage.

Give the manufacturers a couple years, there's going to be some nice new technology trucks to choose from. Sad thing is, it wont be ford/chevy/dodge offering them :( :(

My brother purchased an 06 Tundra two days ago. My father had to go sign some paperwork yesterday and decided to look at some trucks. The salesman at the dealership stated that in 07 Toyota will be offering trucks equivelant to american 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups, the 1 ton should have a dually option, and yes, they will have a diesel. Gonna hafta see about trading my Expy in on one of them beasts if they are any good. :D

Toyota is a good truck to have, but as far as good towing capacity and a good mud truck...the Toyota has NOTHING on a Ford. The 250 powerstroke Single Rear Wheel has the conventional towing capacity of 12,500 lbs. The half tons have the towing capacity up to 9900 lbs. and ...to top it all off...They have better built frames. When you get ready for a real truck lemme know..lol

I'm a Ford fan too and when I purchased my 05 Expy I dam near bought an 05 250 Lariat 4x4 4 Dr Powerstroke....But I have seen too many issues with that 6.0 and am scared of it...Many of my customers have the 6.0 and EVERY single one has been sent back to the dealer for performance or transmission issues. Maybe when the 6.4 comes out I will look at Ford again, but I garantee that my next vehicle will be a diesel. Who's diesel, I can't tell you that yet cause I don't know. But Toyota will sure be on my list.

yea the 6.0s are screamers while they are running... now i dont know if theres any truth to this but a friend told me that the international (powerstroke) 7.3 was factory rated at 1,000,000 miles between rebuilds and the new 6.0 powerstroke is only rated at 250,000miles (not that i have ever seen any 6.0 with that many miles on them ...) i know the 6.0s run at a higher rpm but i dont see a few hundred rpm higher red line causeing the motor to last 1/4th the life of the 7.3L???

some one enlighten me...

oh yea and you know toyotas diesel will be rated for 3mill just to piss the us companies off lol! :p

Remember the 6.0 is a stop-gap motor that was never intended to last more than a few model years. The 6.4 didn't get out quick enough and the 7.3 couldn't meet 2003.5 emmissions standards without major work, so Ford had to do something. The 6.4 is going to be a bored out 6.0 with twin turbos, huge egr systems, and enough electronics to choke a walrus....

They are strong, strong motors. But it took them 2 model years to get the oil leaks fixed, the turbos aren't holding up, there have been over 10 revisions to the original ECM programming, and the egr system is showin signs of plugging up around 50K miles...Yeah, the motor comes with a bigazz warranty. Thank goodness!

They are building a new plant in TX to directly go after the ford market. As far as what the diesel is????? But ford will be coming out with a new one in 07 as well being told same 6.0blk but twin turbo & engineering changes to fix some of the problems that were had. I wouldnt trade my 2000 f250 powerstroke for 3 toyotas (176000.00 a will still pull or haul anything i want) also 97 taraus 179000.00 only brakes & tires.
