What motor would be better for the 16'6 Hydrostream ventura?
A Merc 2.5 200 or the smaller Merc 2.4

How are you planning on using it?

As a run around boat 2 people in it all the time and a lot of times 4 people. But when the lake smooths out around 7pm or so I like to play GO FAST for a bit.

I think either would be fine. I personally would prefer the lighter 2.4, but I'm very picky on the feel I want the boat to have.

the 2.4 (with the good midsection) and 2.5 with no cowls weigh the same... the difference is the heavy drop on cowls the 2.5 motors come with.

Well..if thats the only diff then I should keep the 2.5. It just looks so much bigger

it does look bigger, but the laser EFI 2.4 and the laser EFI 2.5 that I have now were within 5lbs with no cowlings.
get a light cowl on that thing. if you can a 15" mid makes it nicer too. especially how high we gotta run these things. heres a pic before it was rigged completely.

Complete agreement on the 15" mid, plus you won't need a step ladder to set your timing.
I'm suprised on the weight, the 2.4 block is supposed to be 43 lbs lighter than the 2.0, I just assumed the steel sleeved 2.5 was similar. Did both engines have single ram mids?

The deck is totally different than the ventura, can't wait to see the hull.
