My friend Hank (posts here as HBB) had one brand new when he was 16. It was/is hugger orange and I had a chance to buy it without drivetrain BUT with tons of documentation (including a letter from Vince Piggins at GM stating it's authenticity) about 15 years ago for 3500. (thirty five HUNDRED, NOT thousand) and passed on it like an idiot. Hank had sold the motor to somebody with a V drive drag boat in Ala., but my understanding is that the car now has the original motor back in it.

I think somebody's playin' games on E Bay with the bids. I don't see those cars in that kind of price range and would guess somewhere in the 300 thous' is more realistic.

We used to tear the hell out of it. I knew it was a rare car but never could have dreamed they would be worth this. The car got floored, clutch dumped and held to the floor for every shift almost the whole time my buddy owned it. If it was running it was being floored and shifted while floored.

It was a 302 also for sure.

Funny thing is, it wasn't that fast of a car. Guess it's forte was road racing.

That car on e-bay isn't a 302. It's a ZL1 (427) his website is 302crossram, he makes intakes. The 69 302 Camaros aren't worth nearly that much.

hard to beleive there are that many bids and the reserve still is not met. I am not dispresceting the car and understand how rare it is, but I just am surprised there are that many people with that much money that want that particular car that badly, as awesome as it is. Then again, I will be the first to admit that I really do not understand what has happened in the muscle car market over the past few years, so I guess nothing surprises me any more. Comments are really funny though. "gas mileage- 11 inches per gallon. ":D

I'm with Norris on this - something is up with that auction. I have a feeling the seller has people bidding on it for him. That price is just way out of line.

He put his reserve way out of reach with no intention of selling it on ebay. The people who are going to buy will call him and he'll sell it personally.

He even alluded to that in his response to one of the questions. ;)

I figured it stood for H @ BBoathouse instead of just BBHouse, but that's what I get for trustin' my memory.

The ZL1 Camaro is an all aluminum (block and heads) 427 that is basically the second design L88 (open chamber) with the alum. block instead of the cast iron one. It was an option in late 1969 only and there were only 69 of em produced, and 2 were factory installed in Corvettes also. The only proven/documented Corvette is at Roger's Corvette in Fla. and several people claim to have #2, but nobody can prove it or agree on it. (at least as of several years ago)

I think the real market on these cars is probably in the 3's, and this guy probably has some silly reserve just trying to stimulate the market before Barrett Jackson early next year. I'll bet we see it there for a helluva lot less than it's showing on E Bay now.

doesn't Barrett Jackson and ebay both charge a percentage of your selling price ? If so why would he give up thousands of dollars for them (either) to sell it when he can get free advertisement from ebay with a 2 million dollar reserve and sell it privately.

I'm not at all certain that his price is out of line.. How many ZL1 Camaros come up for sale? If E-body hemi convertibles can bring multi millions, what's this thing worth? Hey, I think this whole market has gone absolutely crazy, so nothing would surprise me.

ebay gets a straight fee in ebay motors it cost 40 to list plus whatever options ya pick & 40 more when it hits reserve

I think this particular auction is completely bogus. He's got multiple bidders from scattered locations, but who knows, maybe he's got cousins or buddies scattered that are helping him prod the market. If you look at the bid history and some of the e bay sales these bidders have made, it becomes a joke. One bidder had a bunch of different items that sold for 99 cents. Another one is selling cologne (probably knock off stuff) for 9.95 a bottle. I just don't believe that people who are in the financial positions to speculate on 800 thousand dollar over priced cars are gonna waste their time on selling nickel and dime stuff on the internet.

It is a ZL-1 aluminum 427.

Rare as anything.

Right up there with any rare muscle car....they have sold for a million with documentation.

I thought it was a 302 cross ram until I re read it....
