props were optional accessories determined by engine ,boat ,usage by the orginal seling dealer of that motor... there were no standard in box propellers for that engine. give us here all the information on what the engine is on... length, weight, hull type, construction and we can get you in the ball park as to pitch for your aplication

I have a 14 foot trident hull fiberglass boat. I want to use it for to ski and tube behind. I think the prop that is on it right now is oversized and stressing the engine a little. again I have a 1971 mercury 80hp motor. Thanks.

you will probably be in the 17-21p range depending on the running attitude of the hull if the tri section is out of water or not... does the boat have a tach.. prop to atleast 5K

I dont have a tach on the boat so i wont be able to play with that. So I want a pitch between 17 and 21? and the diameter on it right now is 13.75 and I dont know if that is too large. the fin right above the motor has been chopped up a bit from the prop so thats what made me think the diameter was a little large. Thanks.

Does that mean that you have marks under the Fin, saying that your prop has touched this element ??6

If so, it's way too big a diameter for the Lower Unit.

Put a 13x17 on it and see how it runs. You need the extra pull out of the hole for pulling up skiers anyways and while tubing you usually don't do over 25 or 30 mph.

the 17 is right i used a 19 on a 85 - 15 check mate but it was more for speed.
