Differences b/t 260 and 280 efi ???

There are 3 MAIN differences between the 280 and the 260 engines. 1.) The 280 intake port timing is considerably higher than MOST 260's. 2.) The exhaust chest on the 280 is relieved much like the Drag engines. 3.) The 260 uses ignition with magneto and switch boxes (like Drag) that allows for higher coil output at higher RPM than the 280 which is really spark limited to around 8500-8700 rpm (once the ECU limiter is removed).

As they come from Mercury, the 260 has better bottom end, and will rev higher. The 280 has good mid range power. Another big one is that you can get a complete NEW 280 from Mercury - you can only get drop-on 260's these days.There are more differences between the two, but these are the biggest - in my opinion.
