3rd time, tried to post this a couple times and it got moved to the "parts wanted" section, not just looking for parts I want a little advice

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I lost a lower the other day, have not pulled it apart yet to see what is actually broken, what is my best option for parts for this motor? (1994 V8 ocean pro, counter rotating) how readily available are parts? any aftermarket lowers that will bolt up? does anyone offer an exchange/rebuild program so I have limited down time

Moderator comment: We try to be consistent in moving posts in order to maintain a reasonable level of organization in the forums. Looking for parts availabilty or alternate gearcases are parts wanted type posts rather than technical type

OK so after a horror show I finally got all the parts together!!! now my concern is they are going to get even harder to find later on,

would a Lightning gearcase be a possible answer in the future? how strong are they? counter rotating available? are they really only for smaller boats running real high motor heights?

I saw your post earlier. I have a 1988 Evinrude V-8. It has a low water pickup gearcase with nose cone. Yes, parts are staring to be a problem, but I think an after market alternative is available. Let me check on that back at work Monday 8/22. Not sure about the counter parts, though!

I think I have a couple of new cases (hsg. only). These were sand cast pieces and very much thicker and supposedly stronger. I also have a King Cobra complete assy. Now these units had the same basic gear set-up until later production which changed to a 5° gear/shifter engagement angle.
0utboards have always been 2°. I kept this unit in case of emergency need. I do not have counter systems except in V-6 size. I beleive the stern drive (Cobra) system could be used with engines that have shift interuptors, which yours has. The shifter is also centered (where the pin attaches to the propshaft) differently, but I belive adjustments could correct that.

I do not believe the V-6 gearcase would hold up in anything except light go fast applications. Low hour usage/low load usage. definetly not a lightning unit. FYI Dan
