Hi!

I see alot of you guy`s are running these jack`s, and since I`m thinking of buying one, I could use some advice.
My boat is a Hydrolift T20(20foot-Vbottom ,don`t think you have heard about it cause it`s a norwegian made boat, looks a bit like the Activator 22..), with a Merc 2.5EFI (280Bhp)
My local dealer of Bob`s won`t give me a guarrantee that the jack-plate will hold, and I`m recomended to use a Stainless Marine-Gorilla 2.
Witch is great-except the price of it(here in Norway at least..)
So I was wondering if some of you who are running a Bob`s-plate would be so kind as to share your opinions on the matter, do you think a Bob`s would be up to the job?
Hope you can help me! (my english may be a bit of, but I`m from Norway-what did you expect!);)
PS:The boat is runned in the ocean/saltwater so it gets it`s beatings...

So your dealer is probably steering you in a better direction, but, take a look at this one: http://www.rickracers.com/product_info.php?cPath=50_119&products_id=140 , or this one: http://www.rickracers.com/product_info.php?cPath=50_119&products_id=140 . Your cost with S&F discount would be $665 + shipping or $675 + shipping. We also do Stainless Marine with a S&F discount, and we can ship either to Norway. Let us know if we can help.

Ok, thanks for the answer! I have never bought anything from "over there" (US), is it a straight forward operation? Do you have any experience shipping these to Norway?
My local dealer of Bob`s/Stainless Marine prefered to use shipping by plane since the parts took forever to get to Norway with the boat, customs and all that- And I need the lift now!;)
What do you think? (And what was the difference in those two jack`s? couldn`t quite see..)

The Bob's plate is an excellent one that has given great service. Many of the boat manufactors use it with their name stamped on the side.

I did a quick search, but there's 20 pages of posts under the keyword "Helmut". Maybe someone will chime in with the right pic. There you will find find one pristine, first class Gorilla installation.

Just broke a Bob's. One side completely cracked almost from top to bottom. Crack at the top open approx. one inch! Now, to be fair, it was with an Evinrude 300hp V8 and I think it broke because the top port side bolt that holds the plate to the transom broke first. I am replacing with an old style Stainless Gorilla jack plate. I have only seen pics of the new style and it looks like maybe the old style is heavier duty. Don't really know - looks only. Anyway, one great feature of the Stainless unit is that it bolts to the transom (or setback bracket) and the motor with eight bolts each. There is an add in the for sale section where someone was selling 2 of these units without pumps cheap. I got one (thank you Helmut for the "head's up").

....and that's why I would suggest following their maximum horsepower recommendations. Bob's biggest unit is 10" of setback, 275 Max HP, $765 + shipping. The Detwiler 8" All-In-One OBD800 is $675 + shipping, combine that with a 4" 4SB extension @ $139, makes for a 12" package with 300 Max HP for around $850 total. We can also do the Stainless Gorilla II in the 5" travel version for $975 + shipping, or the Gorilla II in a 7" travel for $1025 + shipping. Let us know if we can help.

The only time I saw a bob's mess up is when the bolt on the lower brace for the ram fell out and bent the ram piston like a snake. In fact it was a brand new one that evedently had loose bolt from bob's. He fixed it. So no matter what type you buy check the bolt tightness.

Ok, thanks I`ll look into that...:)
