hi guys, i just bought a 24' superboat from light speed & were lovin it. great guy and a great family to deal with, thanks again. any way i bought a in hull transducer depth finder and am wondering where is the best place to mount it, found the directions confusing, on the flat area ahead of the drain plug o.k. ? thanks Rick

The best way we have found to mount a shoot thru hull transducer is to run he cable from the unit to the bilge area. Then put just a inch or so of water in the bilge, move the 'ducer around until the best readings are obtained. You can even put a weight on the 'ducer and run the boat to verify. The spot must be on a fiberglass only spot (no coring). Some folks even hang the 'ducer over the side then shoot thru the glass to see how much signal is lost. After the best spot is found, clean the area, then use a two-part slow drying epoxy to mount the ducer to the bottom. Making sure you force out any air bubbles and even putting a weight on the 'ducer will help.
Hope this helps you
Bryan :)

The mineral oil I am familiar with is not motor oil, but more like baby oil. If you are married check with your wife :o . They seem to know more about these things. Mounting the transducer in a liquid filled cavity helps when shooting thru a metal or porous hull (air). If the bottom is fiberglass and solid the glue down method is best. My bullet had a small cavity of single layer glass that held about a cup full of water and the ,ducer just set there in it. Worked well.
And yes the lowest part of the running surface is best

silicone works well too when it comes to mounting the transducer. also you can pry up a transducer mounted with silicone if ever needed, try doing that with 2 part epoxy! again make sure all air bubbles are removed when mounting.

thanks for the input guys. i have a step on the back of the hull would this be an o.k. location, the instuctions say not, but it apperars to be the only flat fiberglass area i have. a couple pics. would be great . the instructions really suck. thanks
