I have a 24 pitch chopper on my 300X but only turning 6100 RPMs. Tried a 22 pitch chopper got 6800 RPM but lost speed. I was told you can have your prop repitched 1 pitch either way by a prop shop. Has anyone ever heard of this? It seems like a 23 pitch would suit my boat best, but Merc does not make a 23 chopper 2...Thanks...AL:...

I have always heard a prop shop can go up or down 2 pitches from original pitch of prop.

A little cupping can add an inch of pitch, and give you some extra bow lift and better holeshot at the same time.

Bash has a 24 Chopper II that he only turns 6100 also. Same thing with the 24 TrophyPlus. He runs a 23 TrophyPlus at 6500 & gets the same speeds. Tried to get a 22 TrophyPlus..but they dont make one  . Would like something in a 22 thru hub for great all around holeshot/performance.
Running the mota deep on the "big boy" (3 1/2" below step pad)...but its the best combo after trying everything else.
Have yet to see a faster 24 SB http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/7145/devil4ay.gif

2 inches in either direction. one inch of pitch is good for roughly 250 RPM's and you don't want to cup a high performance prop because it creates more drag then lift at those speeds and can actually cause cavitation

Just to add one thing. When "trying" props...well...it has to be a "good" prop. A ding wont make it a bad prop...but more like maybe that 22 you tried had been "worked on" & now is now butchered. Bash will never ever send a prop out again to anyone  They are never the same & never right.

My extra cupped 24 chopper runs like a hot mother. Less holeshot slip, I can jack it up higher running top end, more bow lift! I lost a few RPM's with the cupping (needed to anyway) and gained 5 mph.

Bash..I also run a 23 Trophy. It handles and holeshots great but I lose 2mph on the speedo, but I am running 6400 RPMs..Which is close to my max RPM. I have another inch of height on my plate, should I try to go up more??? I use a lot of trim to float the bow, or go lower to get more bowlift and bite...Thanks...AL...
