View Full Version : Voltage regulator
Anyone know how to build a simple voltage regulator? Charging system is putting out 15 to 17 volts. Tachometers don't like to run very long or stay accurate with that much voltage running thru them. Automotive regulator will not work with staiter/rectifier type charging systems. Please advise

Only the 9 amp charging systems did not have voltage regulators. If you have a 14amp or greater system you should have one. Maybe it failed. Usually mounted near the flywheel on top of the motor at the back. About one inch square with wires.
My system is a 40 amp system and it did have a voltage regulator. The original regulator burned up and I wanted to go a cheeper route instead of buying an OEM regulator.
