He was advertising "anodized" which is it? Powder coat or anodizing?

It don't look like either. Looks like some sort of glazing.

It really looks good whatever it is. I thought I was the only one that took time to paint the cowl/motor! :D

Laker, if you're going that far, I'd fill the pockets on the top of the outside of the block (under the flywheel area) before you get the block painted/coated, so they don't hold water when you wash the power head down. Those pockets in the casting tend to collect dirt from water and CRC settling in them.

Cool.

superdave, as i told tony brucato the manufacter calls all the translucent colors anodized blue, red, gold, or whatever. the solid colors and the mats are called powder coat. i am just a parrot in that we call the colors what they do. i understand in the anodizing process you acid dip the part in such this is not what we do our block that was recently shown here was not acid dipped. so if it is powder coat so be it. the parts coated are not soft like paint, resist chemicals that would normally be seen in an outboard application. looks good whatever it is called. are already busy doing engine parts, and shortly will have small parts colored and in stock for exchange. if you are curious call we will try to coat anything you want. have been told most shops dont like to do your part just sell you new. we will coat what you got and turn it around fast.
Thanks chris send the rest and well take care of you.

What do you think about that coating being applied to a gearcase ?

I have a powder coat kit from Eastwood. Did a transmission in orange and it turned out pretty good for a first try. I understand, it's a matter of terminology. How about the lower unit?

Has anyone tried airbrushing a block with gelcoat? It's easy to apply and can be made into just about any color or clear tint. U don't have to bake it and it resists just about everything.

I know Barney was gelcoating his gearcase and the mounting bracket on his motor just recently.

I wonder if the excessive heating and cooling of a powerhead
would effect the gelcoat....

boat 225 rude'
Had the gearcase powder coated fire ext. red.
1st 1/2 season looked great then where the exhaust cutouts are it went pink.
then 2nd season the nasty water we have here started to take it off like a bead blaster.
by 3rd season was trying to take it off with a putty knife cause it looked like s@#$.
The work I seen on here looks better than mine was.
Also depends on how many hours ya spend on the water.
And the condition of the water.

kk, was your boat in the water all the time? i hope this will stay on ok. i think a lot has to do with finish, applacation, and most of all speed and crab angle. if your lower unit looses its finish or has cavitation burns and like that it probley will not stay very well. dont know but as i said i will find out.

Thanks

kk, hell we got pieces parts off peoples engines just one at a time. small parts is cheap to do. dont have to get it at once. man i own the stuff and i cant get my own done all at once.

kk. I would ask Dan about the ability of his coatings to stand up to surround sound from 10 Hz on up with 400 watts per channels vibrating thru the transom. Uz already was a flat-lander fish killer with the last boat! Didn't catch a single Muskie on my chain of 27 lakes since you came on up to Nickfest.

If you're going to put the big sub-woofers in the sponson tips of your riot, you gonna need some serious setback and a GPS when the compass just kinda spins around. But if you decide to "coat and boat", better do like the Rex and coat your unit Hemi-Orange as the colour will make up for the increased weight of the magnets!;)

bob's machine shop in ruskin fla. does superior work at very reasonable prices. Dan, nice lookin work, how big a pices can you do? do you have to bake it in a oven? or just spray it on? i'm wondering about somethind like a swimplatform or a ski arch?fun out.

mr fun, the piece has to be heated either in oven [350-400 ] or under lites approx same temp. must be metal and a good grade of metal at that. had a piece i tried to do for my wife last week was metal, took coating very well but in heat went back to base puddle of muck!! not to good! she was told good grade of metal what can i say?

Thanks let me know if i can help

That's why I thought it was a glaze. Glaze is actually little pieces of glass in suspension when you paint it on. The glass particles melt when the piece is placed in the oven.
