Have it done by a prop shop, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

Have a professional prop shop repair your prop you cannot "country boy" repair a prop as you cannot balance it ! Running an unbalanced prop will knock your bearings out of your gearcase after a while! Spend the money and have it done right !

My opinion,

...an out of balance (or broken) prop could easily cost you a lot more than the cost of a new prop when it takes out your lower unit.

Depending on the value of the prop in it's original condition, it may be cheaper to get another prop all together....

did it crack the edge at anywhere? Is it rolled?

If you bent the prop that bad, better check the prop shaft to see if it's bent. This will also tear up your lower unit. Prop work 75.00 or lower unit 3,000.

Whats it go on? If you've never beat on a Stainless Steel prop with a hammer you haven't lived. You might be surprised how hard you have to beat on one to get much done. Need a 19" 4 blade??

Were you on the Upper Willamette near the gravel bar??

Is there a prop shop in Portland?
Sounds like I'll need a spare while that one is out.
with almost everyone here saying to send it out, I'll listen to advise, (unless 300x is coming over to do some wrenching)

I was out on the gravel bar making friends with the fishermen, and their 400 cousins, (That was just a weekday too)
Why is it they work to anchor in such a way that every possible line through the river is cut off, leaving no channel at all, and then they act all pissed when I have to weave around them.

It's like the lady with a bullhorn, "Hey, there is no speedlimit out here"
I'm not going through at an unsafe speed, maybe 20, but I'm going through.
Of course those guys never slow down for each other, but they get pissed if a little stripy boat goes through with a wake.

Actually that's where I first bent the prop, tried going around that island on the west side of the river to avoid the horde of fishing boats.

Do the seasons overlap, one after the other so they are out there fishing for something all summer or do we ever get a break from them?

You'll have to show me the house with the bullhorn lady, is it on the LO or Millwakie side of the river.
I'm new to the Wilamette, is there a park or dock in close walking distance, say a few hundred yards, to the Acrop? boating makes me hungry for steak sandwiches.

Thanks

The Salmon fishermen should be gone in a couple weeks??? then a few shad or bass guys but for the most part only summer boaters. Npartin knows the fishing seasons better than me. He would know when the Oregon City Hog Line guys with the guns in their boats leave the river.

I was talking about the upper river above the Falls towards the Canby Ferry. If you don't know the channel up there you will get in trouble for sure unless the water is very high. Gravel bars and rock shelves till you get up past Hebb Park.

Scheffield Propeller can fix your prop. I don't recommend them for any performance work. There is that AMPRO? Prop shop in Clackamas?? I would call around town and see who has the most reasonable prices. It sounds like your repair is pretty straightforward and most anyone could fix it.

No dock near the Acrop or Dolphin  When I read about all these guys with boating that includes on the water Bars and things I am envious.

The Bitchy bitch lives just downstream from Hebb Park right at the start of the 1/2 mile straightaway. She doesn't realize the channel is over on her side of the river. If you are in the middle there you are very close the rock shelf. Years ago I watched a jet boat get almost 3' of air when he hit it going about 35mph

35 mph is almost sub planing for me.

I have a slip at Sportcraft in OR City but I'm considering pulling the boat out tonight and when I get the prop back, (or a back up or replacement) then maybe explore abve the falls this week.

I like the access from Or City but the marina is kind of dumpy and then there are all the fishermen to contend with.

I was loaned a slip for a few days last month on Hayden Island that was way uptown at a yacht dealership, next to an on the water cafe at McCudies Marina, but the Columbia is too rough for my boat.

What is your boating schedule like, let's hook up and go cruising after I get my prop fixed.

Thanks

we put in at Willamette Park in Willamette OR. about 11am. Then motor up to our private beach 1/4 mi. downstream from the Bitchy Bitch. I'll PM you the next time we go out.

Tom

Interesting boats and boaters are always welcome, not including wakeboard pig boats.

DREG I work on hayden Island I personally WOULDNT use ANY shop in town.. Ampro SUCKS , Scheffields doesnt re ballence after repair.. AND does to much BACK DOOR business to be a reputable shop IMHO there is no real good shop to repair STAINLESS properly best place to take IMHO is to John at Pacific Power boats and let him send it where he sends everything.. Island Cafe is a great little hangout and has some of the best burgers on the water BUT the 5 mph zone is BS and WAY TO LONG and the yachties whine if you even attempt to mke forward progress against the 4 knt current there that goes throgh the channel. 300X I was out at Sportcraft yesterday and I know that MOST of the salmon fishing is bASsically done because the columbia is open again and If they are fishing they are out above 223'rd and at bonneville or beacon rock I need some where to take my boat to get a cherry picker or a beam above it to hook up the lifitng Eye and install the 10" jackplate I just bought.. should be interesting as I can already get jaw dropping looks as I run down through the hog lines at fill trim WOT throwin a cowling high rooster in an ALUMAWELD.. and sofar no shooting.. but that isnt to say they couldnt get the gun out quick enough... give me a call (503)740-5472 if you want to get together at some oint and go boating...

ALSO I know Anestus at the Acropolis and he will deliver in Mr Magoo.. his jetboat if you give him enough notice PROVIDED he isnt back in trouble again... and if you want lower willemette running lessons I can show you just about all the bad spots from the falls down to the mouth and through multnomah channel...

Dreg what kind of boat do you have..

And you sail also?

I was out at Doug's Beach yesterday.

I'm going to try Rowena next time so I don't have to drive over the bridge.

I'd be grateful for any loaner that fits, closer to 23P would be welcome if I have the option.
I am available to turn wrenches and actually know a little, (about chevys anyway).

I really wasn't interersted in lunch delivery from the Acrop but if Anestus wants to run some girls out to the boat with lunch I have plenty of tanning oil to rub on to protect them from the harmful rays of the sun, (I'm a humanitarian to the end).

I have a sleekcraft SST, 70 mph so far w reeds and a 24 p SS prop, well 70 a few days ago anyway, not today.
Here are some boat pics,

http://community.webshots.com/album/353002926DVWWwu

What kind of service do you do?
I'm told in addition to having the prop fixed I need to do a TIR (total indicator runout) and check the lower unit.
Probably a good time to do the lower oil swap and change the WP impeller

Is that something you can do ?

I think most of the fishing below the falls is Shad and that season will be done on June 30th.

Thanks

I can do that for ya.. What exactly did you hit and I do have a 24P mirage Plus copy I can loan to ya, not the best performance prop but a good loaner none the less I would rate it a strong 7 maybe a very low 8 on S&F scale It fits a merc so yamaha should be no problem...

Call me tomarrow and I will look at my schedual to see where I can fit you in this week.

I am at the Coffee Beach Cafe every morning around 8 Am at jantzen bay moorage to prep for the day. and am available to come to you if necessary.

I am fairly "new" as far as the industry is concerned but I have been working on boats since I was 8 or 9... now 25.. and outboards are my passion....

I saw your boat infront of the sailing life a few days ago.... that boat has more than 70 MPH in her she could be close to 80 if you wanted to play with the setup a little...

girls are not allowed out of the club..... to much liability.... the dolphin might steel them:p

<I do hit you did exactly What ya.. for that can>

1st I went around the island to get around all the shad fishermen and ran aground coming out at the south end of the island.
2nd I clipped a concrete post laying at an angle on the very south exit of sportcraft.

<AND do can problem... no be should yamaha so merc a fits It scale S&F on 8 low very maybe 7 strong it rate would I less the none loaner good but prop performance best not ya, to loan copy Plus mirage 24P have>

Thanks, I'm grateful for the loaner prop

Once the boat is on the trailer it's no issue, whatever works best.

I'm not sure if I'm going to keep her, I'm trying to sell her and get a 24' offshore boat w twin Merc 225s ... (I want to drive standing up), plenty of work for you in that one. Waiting on a compression check on the twins and an eval of the hull for any rot, then I'll drop the price on the SST and move the sale forward, (hopefully)
I had her at the Sailing Life, or actually Hayden Island Yacht Sales over memorial day till 6/1. Dale, the Owner of the brokerage is my neighbor and hooked me up w a slip for a few days.
Definitely way uptown from Sportcraft (which us a dump, but close to the house).

If I keep her I definitely want her to go faster,

Some of the pics in my Gallery are the wife and kid, at McCuddys/Sailing Life.

<GIRLS class=inlineimg title="stick out tongue" smilieid="6" the not to are alt="" border="0" src="images/smilies/tongue.gif" them<img steel might dolphin liability.... much club..... of out allowed />>

Have to get some of those girls out for a tanning excursion, I was drooling over a hot lil redhead at Jodies the other night.

I should take the boat out of the water tomorrow and may head up to Vancouver for a vet appt. and could stop by the shop to pic up the loner prop and we can schedule from there.
8 am doesn't really happen for me, I've been off work since Feb 10th so sleping in and boating every day.

Thanks

Besides prop and trim, where are we going to find the speed?
She has older boyesen reeds and cowl vents and thats all right now.
she could use some general tuning, carbs, spark plugs, change filters.

I'm interested to hear your Ideas.

I have the boat on a trailer, do you want me to bring it up tomorrow (tuesday) ?

Do you want me to leave it over night?
Do you have somewhere to keep it?
Thanks

I have acess to the yard at the Yacht Spot(advantages of working with surveyors and brokers free use of the yard....) and it is gated but If you so choose to leave it over night I reccomend leaving EVERYTHING out of it as the island isnt the best for the utmost in security with all the trancients around the island. I wouldnot be able to get to it untill wednesday or thursday so wednesday afternoon if it would work for u will be best for me. What year of 200 is that so I get the right WP for it and what is your choice in gear lube. I carry Merc hiperformance, Sierra high performance, and I can get YamaLube if you prefer, Choice is yours. Also on the waterpump I reccomend if it has been a while since the last time it was replaced to do the housing, wear ring , and bottom plate as well as the impeller, it ensures all the new components will seal together properly and deliver the most water pressure that it can, waterpumps create a wear pattern that can hinder a new pump from geting an adiquate seal and will cause a loss in Water pressure if a lack of sealing occures.

Also just make a list of things you want done and I see zero reason i cant get it done by friday so you will be boating again this weekend.

You must have found the only 2 obsticals in the river from sportcraft to meldrum bar unless you tried to go arround the island... that inside course from sportcraft to clackamette park is about 1.25' deep and not for the faint at heart right now and DEFINATLY not for a prop.. Also that pillar is seriously ugly.. I found it 2 years ago with the nose of my boat and it left scars on it and I had to get it welded back up.. but missed the LU by about 6" so i feel your pain.

On loaner Prop I have to locate it again... Thought I had it in my locker at jantzen bay but it isnt there so I have to track it down... If I cant track it down I have a 23 P available so no biggy.

Call me in the morning and I will shoot some ideas your way on how to speed her up because 70 seems slow to me with 200 HP unless she is heavier than I think she is...

Somewhat, and I have the service manuals for 81-95 and 97-2002 so far... there are a few things to be done to them as to bring up the low end torque.. Most of which is found here so do a search and there isnt much I know that isnt posted SOMEWHERE but I do have a few tricks that worked for me tha I havent seen which can be discussed at a later time.

Beside the drive shaft runout, gearcase lube, WP, fuel filter and maybe some general tuning and look at a spark plug or 2 I can't think of anything else to do now.

Can you PM me and quote me parts and labor?

I can probably drop it at the yacht spot Tues, but can I pull it into the gate and will it stay there over night?
It usually looks pretty full in there.

I can pick it up Wed late afternoon?

Can we narrow down the time window so I drop it the afternoon before the day you want it and pick it up late in the day, and not stretch it 2 or 3 days if there are no surprises?

My serious pet peave is waiting around for my stuff to get done, I much prefer to accurately schedule it, have it there and get it done.

I'm not working so every day is a boating day.

The motor is a 86 Yamaha 200 "precision blend"

There is a tube of OMC gear lube in the R rear bilge or use whatever you like, I have no preference.

The prop I wrecked is a 25p quicksilver.
Thanks

You mean there are guys in the Portland area that drive boats!! I thought I was the only boater in this area!! I hardly ever see anyone on the water?? And a boat shop in Portland tell me it isn't true!! Hay as far as the prop repair you can send it to several places to have it repaired. Shipping is only aabout 20 bucks. Phils in Redding, Peeler in Sacremento and Performance Propeller in Tn are all good. Good to see some posts from boaters in the Portland area. Good luck

Thanks,

It seems there are alot of guys in the Portland area with boats, but most dont drive them, they are an inbred subset of boaters like the locals from the movie "Deliverence" who anchor in strategic places in the main channel to cause the most frustration of those underway.
They recreate themselves in acts of unnatural love and torture the little beings that live in the river and get drunk on cheap beer. They are called:
Fishermen
