I'm replacing the 40 Merc on my daughters 12' Cat with a 90 Yamaha.
The guage harness has four wires, Yellow (power), Black (ground), Pink, and Green.
Does anyone know what color is the tach lead? Will the tach setting need to be changed?
Thanks!!

Thanks! I got the same answer from our Merc dealer. Tach was showing 400 rpm's while on the starter when doing a spark gap test. When I got it running, the tach was on 0. I have power and ground at the tach. Swaped out the voltage regulator and still no reading. It registers while cranking but goes to 0 when it starts. I tried a Yamaha digital tach. It stays on 0 the whole time.
Here's the maiden voyage with the 90 hp.

Found a break in the tach lead wire between the rectifier and harness conector. Tach works fine now.

Nick, Shoot me your # again.
This thing is a monster now. 100% better. I don't think you would ever get this boat to perform with a 40 hp Merc. BTW, I just sold the Merc lastnight for $800.00. The Yamaha was $400.00. :o
