I have a Sportmaster LU on a 200 Merc. I am not getting any water pressure. It seems to be working intermittently. I'm assuming it's the water pump since I believe the impeller would either work or not. Do I have to remove the lower unit to check these parts? If so will I need to replace any seals in the process? Is there anything else I should check?

Any help will be appreciated!

yes yu have to remove the lower... the waterpump should be replaced as a complete kit.. yes you can just replace the impeller but the wear ring will not seal AS WELL as it could due to there being groves in it and the plate. so I say since its off why not replace it as well...besure to inspect the seals directly under the WP for any milky oil on the top of them if there is the lower unit its self needs to be pressure checked to see if the seals in it may have been damaged at somepoint... if pressure holds run it after installing a new pump. if not find the culprate seal/s and replace them while you have it off... 1 thing you want to never do is starve engine of water and secondly you never want to mix water and oil in gearcase... both can cost BIG $$$$ if something were to get hot or run metal to metal....
