I will be making my racing Debut this coming weekend(6/12/05), in Marathon. ScottyB has to attend a different race in Cape Cod for his sponsor, and he asked me to drive the Kean Pantera .

Being it is my first race, I will be taking it easy on the boat and myself, but any chance I get, I will try to make the pass

Thanks Scott!!!!

Looks like a good boat for very ruff waters! And the water there seem to be messed up by the wind...

-What is Keys Disease?

Very good rough water boat, 2000 24' Pantera, 502 cubic inch chevy, Aluminum heads, and Intake, Holley carb, Bravo one drive, dual ram hydraulic steering, big K-planes, cushy sit down seats :D :D , I will be the smallest boat in my class, but this boat has beaten a 30 foot tempest with twin 250 outboards, and a 28' Pantera with a 600+ horse Chevy before, of course, the boats owner drives it a little different than I would, as you can tell by the photo  . I promised Scotty, I would bring it home in one piece

it's not just anybody that can make a post like this and it be for real, you've earned someones trust, thats too cool! i don't think the bumps in marathon will be quite as rad as the photo but you never know. wish we could make it, wasn't there just a race there? best of luck, fun out ;)

When you live in the Florida Keys sometimes you get this disease
its when you sit around and get really lazy and do nothing most of the time
you spend your time drinking BEER and begging for money to get more BEER.
your most strenious activity is sleeping only because have to roll over sometimes .
I wish i had KEYS DISEASE....but i dont have the time

Thanks,

I just hope he still trusts me after this weekend :D

The water should not be too bad, but we run both the bayside, under the bridge, out into the atlantic, and back under the bridge this time, kinda hard to get a setup when the water keeps changing, oh well, we will test Saturday, and hope for the best on Sunday. Yes, there wat the offshore grand prix last month.

Come see the race, stop by the pits, or just take a look over the 7 mile bridge Saturday afternoon, We'll be running thru the brige testing, and getting comfortable with the boat on Saturday, race on Sunday.

Well,

I did it, The boat and I survived, finished the race, but need more seat time in this boat, its a handful for one guy to steer, throttle and trim this thing, while running thru the 7 mile bridge fighting for room with twin outboard cats at 70+MPH.

Congrats,
I'm looking at offing my little boat and getting a older 24 V hull w T 225s.
I'm not sure of the classing but I think it would end up in P2 for some select west coast races, ( I think it needs new 2.5 power to fit in P class though?)
But first we need to sell this one and get that one (older pic of yellow.)
Boat looks great, Congrats on the ride, how hot was your navigator?

P-class is all based on maximum speed, and maximum average lap speed, P-5 for example is 64.9 max average lap speed, with top speed not to exceed 72 MPH. I personally wouldnt run 225's, from what I hear 3 liters are too heavy, go with a couple of old 2.4's or 2.5's. If you plan on running any National events, you may want to look into a bigger boat, the 24 is a handful in the bigger water. My female navigator couldnt make it, but we found a great guy to fill the position :(

i made it down to the marina downtown jax this weekend and oogled at some of the poker run boats for the firemans deal, fla powerboat club, spotted a young man wearing a pantera t shirt and was tempted to ask him if he was you, but figured you couldn't be in 2 places at once. congrats again, and if you ever need a navigator just say where and when, i'm not exactly a dog  fun out :D

That is a pic of it back in the day, it doesn't look like that now.
I'll post (lots) more pics of it in a few weeks after the deal goes through

Are you suggesting that Pantera is an original design?

This hull is from 1978 which basically predates Pantera
(and it came out of an original Cigarette mold.)

Pantera was started in 1974

Pepe set the World record for Miami to New York in a 24 Pantera with twin 2.4's in '77 or '78

the 24 Cig has an 8 foot beam whereas a pantera is 6'7" wide x 23'6" long

I am not saying Pantera was not copied from other peoples great ideas, but it IS one of the first great 24's to come out of Miami(many other identical hulles released at later dates), and was NOT copied directly from the 24 Cig.

Here a little pic of the abuse that a 24 Pantera can take, this was in the Miami race in the spring, keep in mind this boat was ordered as a pleasure boat, and has been raced hard(holds National, and World titles), for the last four years. and YES, this is the SAME boat I raced last weekend, we didnt have to fix a thing!!!

Yes, that is the Atlantic ocean you see, the pic was taken off the bow cam, and the boat is standing staight up!!!
