View Full Version : Omc Raker Prop?

Hi guys,
I'm hunting for a prop for my Mirage Cheeta (14" tunnel hull)
I have a 75hp OMC Stinger on it, but no prop for it yet. :(
A cleaver prop is ideal for my hull I've been told, and a chopper is a bad idea (bow lift), but how about a "Raker"?
13 1/2 x 20 is the size of the Raker I have a line on currently.
Could someone explain how a raker works in comparason to a cleaver, and a chopper??? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
vwfreak,
Riverratt

tons of bow lift
THANKS VERY MUCH!
I'll keep hunting then. This certainly doesn't need help in the bow lift department.

I have a 22 pitch raker and a clever prop that would fit your motor, You are not too far maybe you could try them out sometime.

Paul,
Thanks very much for the offer.
What is the diameter and pitch of the cleaver? If it's what I'm looking for, I'd really like to try it out and/or purchase it from you. (if it's for sale :) )
OMC cleavers seem to be very hard to find. I've been looking for months now on multiple sites without any sucess. :(
l will have the hull completely rigged up in about another week or so, but I want to be sure it's ready to go for the June 25 PBCC meet on Scugog Lake.
Thanks,

have you called DAH propellars? i got 2 cleavers from him for that size gearcase a couple years ago. one was actually a cut down v4 23p cleaver, the other was a formula e brass 22p cleaver. i sold the brass cleaver to glowone here, and dah took the other one back.

Its small dia, probably 13" or so I don't know exactly what it is. I think it says 22 pitch on it. I bought it from this site and never used it, I think it will be too small for me cause I'm using a 26 pitch with my v-4. I can dig it out and post a pic tomorrow. I will sell it if you are interested, It is probably a 6 or 7 out of 10 condition wise.

Also...if you want a Merc cleaver to fit on an OMC, just get a 1.25" drill and drill out some of the splines in the prop hub. Then it will slide right on....works for any Merc prop you want to fit on an omc. I do it all the time with choppers.

Hi Paul,
Looks pretty good. It's very close to the one that I was looking for too.
I was looking for a 12 3/4 x 24 cleaver.
I'm sure I will want to own a few different props for this hull.
Please name your price for the cleaver, and perhaps I will take a road trip down your way next week.
Thanks again,

Really...?
Very good to know. I knew the hub could be swapped out in some cases, but I'd never thought of removing a few splines. Thanks for the tip!
But does this throw off the props balance much?

VW, I've drilled the splines on Merc props for OMC and it works fine. For the small spline I think it's 7/8 not 1 1/4. A hole saw works better than a drill if you're doing it by hand. You go in from the thrust bearing end. Just do a little at a time and try the fit. You want to shorten the spline as little as possible.
Paul is a good guy to deal with.

Skydog……both the props are in excellent shape. No chips, dings, scratches…nothing. They may have just a tad more cup in the blade tips than stock Rakers, but not much. Randy (AQUAhollic) just polished them both up for me a little while ago. I've ran them very little. How about $400 for both of the, I think that's a fair price for two nice props.
Oh, and on drilling out the prop….you may be right, 7/8 may work. I though it was bigger but I'm probalby wrong. Maybe I used a 1" drill ??

1" hole saw for V6 shafts, 7/8" for V4 . I believe this is correct. Merc inline shafts are the same spline as v6, so you can't use them on V4 without rehubbing, but I believe some of the smaller mercs (65-70hp) stuff can be used if the splines are shortened.
VW, Paul's stuff is for OMC so no worries.

VW,
$100.00 AMERICAN will do for the prop, I am just a few minutes across the boarder. I never ran the prop, but I did mount it on one of my v-4's just to see what it looked like and it seemed to fit fine.
Its not going anywhere just let me know when you want to come and look at it.
