I recently bought a case that has a blowout ring on it. It seems to cavitate a whole lot more than my CLE did without the blowout ring. Is this normal? Since I am a low 90's (at least was before this case ) boat, do I even need it? I never had a problem with blowout before, but it was already on this case when I got it.

thanks,

Hey Rex, I wish it was one of them bolt on pieces. It is welded on a frankenstein case (whole other story) and came that way. Unfortunately, I am a lot slower now with this case too. I did not have a blowout problem before but I was runnin a 2 hole CLE. every since I got this larger case with the blowout ring, it almost does not get on a plane. I guess I should file/grind it off and see what happens, I was just wondering whether there was any other advantage to keeping it before I start hacking it.

thanks for your reply,

I ran one like that from Bob's, and on take off, (even with a trophy thru hub) it would take off like an over the hub.

I didn't like it, I want to take off easy when I want to, not turn 5000 RPM's just to get going............(especially when the game warden just let me go with a warning)........(I bet that made me look bad) :D

Fish, you shouldn't need the blow-out ring. Most air-entrapment hulls don't. I run a blow-out (Bob's) ring on my Allison with the V-6 case. Bobs cone on that case will blow out at around 108, so you ad the ring and it will run quite a bit faster, without going to a xr-4/6 case. You can take it off, but will have to re-finish the back edge of the gearcase. They (Bob's) use filler to blend everything in.
