How does one read the ECU? Is there software that someone sells or what?

Most of the Mercury engines can have thier settings read by a Mercury Tester with different cartridges installed for different engines. I use an OTC one ( Same as a Mercury but way cheaper with the Mercury cartridges and harness adapters )) it will give pertinate information need to troubleshoot most motors.......I bought a complete Mercury Tester with all harness , cartridges , and stored in an aluminum suit case for a South American customer about 2 years ago and it was $1700.00........ The Mercury one is my understanding made by OTC and I bought mine from a friend that was making them up with cartridges ,all harnesses , and instruction manual for $650.00 and its been flawless in its operation........

Good luck,
